Engine/Ignition "missing"

I have a 2000 Protege 1.6 liter. IT has had the same ignition coils since new . It has 230,000 miles on it . I am getting a "missfire" reading in cylinder #4 . Could this be a coil ? Or should I just start with new plugs and then work my way up to the coil ? Or swap coils and see if I get a missfire on a different cylinder ? Any help is appreciated .
The ignition and engine seems to "miss" under heavy throttle and sometimes under light throttle.

It was the Ignition coil. All is well now . Thank God. We are at a point where we need new inner and outer tie rods , a sway bar brace , new tires and an alignment. Also I am due to put in another timing belt too.
I cant complain. It has been a great car .

This thing happened to me last month (more like 2 month ago now).
i replaced the coil as well as the plugs and the wires!
Then, i had a "Check engine" for being too lean....after looking around the engine, i realized that the Air flow hose was puncture ( a trip to autozone and $40 fixed that)
then the battery died ..i replaced it....and last month, the "Battery and Airbag light" came on. I drove the car to Autozone to check the Alternator : they said it was fine!!!
After a few hours looking online, i discovered that they don't actually "check" the alternator per-say. So, if your voltmeter ( located inside the Alternator is dying, they won't know)....Last week, i ordered an Alternator, and now everything is FINE!!!!!! 235000 miles.....Just wanted to say that :)(cheers2)

ps: the battery was almost 5 years old
and the alternator from 1999
Along with the alternator, i replaced the belt!!
Tires still good after 3 years (MIchelin are not cheap)

Good to hear everyone got their cars fixed up! Still working on mine lol. One thing after another! But tires are not cheap in general, what michelins did you buy? I sell tires for a living and those are the tires I try to sell the most. They are worth it! I have some customers with 120k on one set of them! Plus michilen came out with a new tire since 3 years ago. Called the michilen defender, 90k warranty and they work great! Plus michilen swears its the best tire design they have designed so far.

I bought my Michelin DESTINY in May of 2010 (just before my Big Road Trip : FLORIDA-MAINE-CALIFORNIA-FLORIDA)
so far i have driven 55000 miles with them, and they still have a 32 thread.
over the years, i did change a few things in my car (stainless brake line, Fidanza cluth kit, Brembo rotors, Obx Header...and at one time a Borla muffler {which i replace after 3 years when i got tired of the sound})

I love my Mazda...and i am ready for my annual trip to Maine this fall!!
