Engine appearance?

Just recently purchased new 2003 yellow mp5, but can't believe I didn't notice the *ton* of electrical tape that's used on the engine? I did, ha what I thought was a complete checkup at the dealership, but I finally realized it today...in the bright sunlight.

Does everyone's engine have lots of black electrical tape? Why would they do this? It's not just my car....right?

I've seen it on a neighbors maxima, but it blows my mind that any new car would come with all that tape...it ruins the look. I'd be embarassed to show it off!

I didn't notice anything odd.

The wiring harness in my P5 looks like the one in my Civic. In fact, it looks a lot like most of the cars I've owned. Actually, there isn't a lot of wiring visable on my P5. Most of what is visable is in tubing on top of the cam cover. Most everything else seems to be routed behind something. My old Saturn had a lot more of the corregated plastic tubing on the wiring harness, but the harness in that engine room was a heck of lot simpler than what's in the P5 and the Civic. That could be due to differences between OBD I and OBD II, since there are so many more sense points now. Maybe that's why all of the $35K and up cars have those fancy engine shrouds in the engine room covering up everything? Maybe you could get an MSP cover and put it on your P5 to dress things up?
