where you guys live how do they test your emissions? I am just curious as to how they do it. Do they put the cars on the dyno and run em, or what. I know here in GA they started using the obdII connector on 96 newer model vehicles and they dont even put em on a dyno. Just hook um up to the computer read the ecu codes and if the CEL is on you fail basically. They still use the dyno on the older vehicles though. Just a curious guy I guess. Or nothing better to talk about.

diddo on the connections...sucks for my brother though his car got broken into and they tore up all his wiring in the dash.

In Northern California it's a visual inspection with a sniffer test, no dyno yet. Smog checks are required once every 2 years or when you sell a vehicle.

In Southern California they have the very strict Smog Check II program. It's the full test, sniffer, dyno, and visual. Rumor has it Smog Check II is coming to Northern California in the future as well.

here is Louisville Kentucky as of these year, we dont require testing. I dont know why they changed this but i save 13 dollars each year from this.

They have something here in houston, not sure entirely what it is, but I know that is costs a hell of a lot now for the inspection something like $40 extra....damn bastids!!!

oh yeah we have to get ours inspected every year around your birthday (when you have to buy a new tag sticker) and it costs 25 maximum for the test. It is not the state that sets the cost but actually the testing facility. The state governed it to 25 bux though thank god. Then the new tag you have to get every year is just the little sticker with the new year and the tag number so it cant be removed and put on another tag. The little tag stickers are expensive little bastards, I think mine for the car this year was like 300 something dollars, and it is based on the value of the car. Yeah Ga blows. Its their clean air campaign or some BS.
