Ecoboost wont amount to much IMO

Sorry I dont see ecoboost re inventing the wheel. Its a turbo 6 and with all turbo engines, the fuel economy depends LARGELY on your right foot. They can make small changes to boost efficiency but you still have cylinders to fill and mixture ratios to maintain. I have a car with a 3.0L twin turbo 6 and for what it is, it does well. I get about 16 MPG in mixed driving and about 22 pure highway. Does it do better than a comparable V-8? Yeah Im sure it does but I dont see it returning over 30 highway in real world use and its geared really high already. I turn over about 1800 at 60 and another 300 RPM per 10 MPH after that. Given that the ford is a 3.7L, Im going to call BS on their EPA numbers.

30 MPG highway? Ecoboost is supposed to get 24 MPG in 2WD form. If you go over to an F150 forum you will see that this topic is being violently debated. Will they stand up to constant torture? Will they deliver stated economy? Will the F150 die off because real mean want V8s? Will everyone buy 6.2L instead? Are the turbos going to blow up? All valid questions. I'm really excited to see what happens. I will say that I was absolutely shocked by how excellent the new 3.7L V6 Mustang drove. I would be surprised if the ecoboost wasn't shockingly impressive also. I was very suspicious when I first heard about Ford's plans with the ecoboost V6s and 4 cylinders, but Ford has everything to lose if they fail.

I thought you said it was over 30 in the mustang, I didn't mean the F150. The economy will not live up to EPA ratings, I can end that debate right there. I think anyone that drives one will be fine with the power, when boost kicks its pretty addicting, they will forget about v-8's. The turbos should not give any trouble as long as they sized the intercooler well, all the current diesel tow vehicles have turbos and they run forever. The technology is the same so shame on them if they have trouble.

I have to apologize, I thought the mustang was turbo as well. I still dont believe the 31 MPG number though, the engine is just too big.

You're wrong. Sorry. I drove the car and the sixth gear is extremely low yet there is enough power to keep it rolling and get good mileage. I'm not sure what your objective is with this whole ecoboost topic, but you obviously haven't driven any of the engines you're talking about so you may want to keep quiet until the engines either prove themselves as gems or junk, or until you drive them and watch the computer yourself. Since this is a Mazda forum, not a Ford forum, I will restate that Mazda has terrible efficiency compared to the competition. It is what it is. I really couldn't care what the mileage is as long as the car does what I want, but I do like when a company makes a really cool car that also gets good gas mileage (i.e., 2011 V6 Mustang). The 5 should get better mileage. That's my opinion.

You seem like a nice guy and youre helpful to other members here so I wont pursue the conversation and make enemies. I'm glad you enjoy the engines and I hope your stock investment continues to do well. Topic closed..........
