The "copper piece" you are refering to is called a wastegate. Its job is to stay closed while the turbo is spooling up to built boost. When the wastegate "sees" that max boost has been reached, then it opens up to let extra pressure go around (instead of through) the turbo into the exhaust. This is to keep too much boost from building up and damaging the engine. The Apexi device you are refering to is a boost controller which controls the wastegate and tells it what pressure (or boost level) to open at. Hope that helps clear up some confusion.

alright first off. give your friend a pat on the back for atleast sounding like he knows something about what your doing. second, slap yourself in the back of the head and stop saying your stupid for christs sakes. i don't care if you are or not its just annoying reading you in every post saying you are.

now, the wastegate may have some issues in it. i think this is the first time somebody has actually mentioned that so its deffinetly worth looking into. do i think that the wastegate is the problem,well maybe but probably not. can i say what the problem, hell no and i'm not about to get into either.

stay by your tuner friend every minute he's working on your car so you can learn something by the way. i did this while my buddy was putting a new engine in his RX-7 and when i got one i knew my s*** pretty well. i was a whole lot better off than i would have been without him and his car teaching me the methods to madness
 
orangezoom. That's a nice pic, but is there something wrong with the doors, or is that just the way the light is hitting it? The passenger door. Look at the space between the doors and the panel.....must be the light

the copper s*** is the internal wastegate. and no the apexi S-AFC sorry to burst ur tuners bubble it will only work to a certain RPM do a search. only thing that will really be tuneable will be a stand alone to remap the fuel and ignition. tuning mazdas and hondas are not the same. ive done both to know the differences. if he wants to adjust the waste gate bleed off with the apexi avc R thatll work cuz u can adjust the boost level to peak sooner and s***. just play around and ull have more boost at the RPMS you want it where the power band is the strongest. i posted it before i sell these if you want contact me via IM on aim or email.
