When I bought my car I made the mistake of taking the customer protection plan/extended warranty. I went back the next week I went back to my sales guy and asked if there was any way to cancel that. He said no. I knew that he would want me to keep the plan because of commision but I would have expected him to try to convince me that I wanted to keep it. He just flat out lied to me. I didn't realize it then.

I'm going overseas for a couple years so I went to Carmax to see what I could get for my car. I'm trying to decide if I should take the huge depreciation of a one year old car or store it for two years. I mentioned the extended service plan because I thought it might be transferable and be worth something. They said I could usually cancel it and get some back. I just read the contract and if I had canceled in the first 60 days I would have gotten the full amount back minus a $50 service fee. I wonder if the sales manager or another manager can get me the full amount back. If not, hopefully it will be a good portion. Definitely going to the car dealer tomorrow. I wish I still had the number of the dealership owner. He actually called after the sale to ask if things were going well (or somebody claiming to be him, at least).

The service department was good to me but the sales department was too good ... to them.
