Custom molded rear subwoofer enclosure....

Just wanted to get some feedback on this. Would anyone be interested in being able to purchase a molded subwoofer enclosure that would fit in the rear hatch area or possibly under a seat? Something with .5 to .8 cu/in of space and can mount an 8 or 10 inch driver? It does appear the rear hatch area is the same for 1st gen (2006 to 2010) and 2nd gen (2012+) so it would be a universal fit.

I took my Sonic to a MFG a few weeks back that makes the forms and can produce the enclosures via rotational molds. If there are a few people interested in this I can ask if he is willing to come over here and sign up for vendor status and do a group buy. The place is pretty close to me so I can go out with my 5 so it can be sampled and used to make the original mold.

I think this is going to be a hard sell here as not many mod their vans. Also, how much could it be? The line of low profile under seat subs are pretty hard to beat. ~ $100 AND comes with a woofer and amp. I’m tempted to go this route in the name of space (and cost) savings.

Yeah, I'd be worried about the potential number of buyers to make a run of parts worth it. I'm a potential buyer, but it would need to have clear advantages over other options and price would be a huge factor for me, as I'm directing my funds elsewhere at the moment.

wouldn't the minimum be like.. 100 units? I mean, at that kind of units, nothing US-made can compare to the junk being shipped in from China..

Minimum is probably closer to the 5 to 10 piece range to start the project. They could include a driver but these would typically be blank enclosures. Once the mold is made then a majority of the time and labor is done. Cold rotational molding is fairly cost efficient to repeat the product. I used to purchase 25 gallon tanks with some bulkhead fittings in them. They were about $40 each but I was also ordering 1000 units a month.
