Curt Trailer Hitch?

Been a proud CX-5 owner for a few months now, and want to put a hitch on the car so that I can use my 4 bike Thule rack that I hung off the back of my last SUV. It is a 1-1/4" tongue. I was looking at a Curt rack, but Curt wants us to use hitch strap for a bike rack, and I am wondering where the stabilizer strap thing is supposed to attach, and how well this thing works with our car.

This hitch is the same design as most for our car including OEM. I'm not sure what stabilizer strap you are talking about, but the hitch has those loops at the bottom you can use. You shouldn't have any issue with a 1.25" bike rack.

I put a Curt hitch on my CX-5 and it's a good product. It's similar to the OEM hitch in that they both attach to the rear of the vehicle, but otherwise quite different. The attachment is different and unlike OEM you don't have to cut into the bumper cover.

I'm sure the strap is just to keep the rack from swaying, as there's always some play between the hitch tube and attachment.

They are pretty similiar, the look similiar too with the exception of the mounting holes. I own both and did a swap when I traded my 13 for a 15. Basically using the same beam, the oem hitch bolts horizontal and thus sits higher than the curt which bolts vertically to the bottom of the same beam.

I put a Curt hitch on a Honda a few years ago and use it to hold a bike rack. I've never used a strap. No problems with the Curt hitch or the bike rack. I plan on buying a Curt hitch for the CX-5.
