CosmoRacing (ebay cold air intake)

the ebay intakes a risk. but its more or less mainly about the filter. i recently purchased the AEM dri-flo filter and it works beautifully. i can tell a diff in gas mileage and just the way the car overall reacts. so to sum it up. you CAN get an ebay intake, just make sure you spoil the car with a quality filter. not those paper element ones on ebay.

hope that helps.

That's a good point. I'll have to ask them what type of filter comes with it.
Thanks :)

I bought the Cosmo cold air intake from there website (saw it on ebay too), about one and a half years ago. Have had it ever since and works perfectly. But I also have a AEM Dryflow filter, I wouldn't recommend using the cosmo one.

Excellent. That's good to know (changing the filter, although I had that in mind...).
For the installation, I take it you probably just used the K&N instructions (since they say it doesn't come with any, and the K&N are pretty thorough)? Did it come with the adapter for moving cooling reservoir? Any other notes I should keep in mind? Oh, and what colour is it? If it's the blue piping like in the installed picture on the ebay website, is it pretty close to the gorgeous blue on our car?
Thanks in advance for your answers...

When I installed it all I went by was a couple of pictures from people on the forum, because I already had a general idea from the last car I had and all intakes for the protege are very similar. There was no adapter for the reservoir. I just took off the regular brace and turned it around. I will try to get a picture for you to see. And I also did get the blue intake (exact kind as in picture), and it matches the car very close. If you have any questions when installing, pm me and I can help you out.

EDIT:
I attached a couple of pictures for you to look at.

Yeah, cosmo is not like the typical fleabay company. I have one of these on my wife's lancer and no issues to speak of. If you request a color, they should be able to help you. My advice would be to go to their website or call them directly, so that you can be sure you get what you want. Paul there was very helpful with my install.

I'm assuming "Paul" is "MP3Performance"? Or is he the guy working with Cosmo? Also, did YOU change the filter for a better one, as did MP3Performance?

No, Paul is the guy at Cosmo Racing. I did not change the airfilter and no issues to date.

Thanks a lot for the pictures, I was thinking the polished silver first, but the blue is really nice in the engine bay of our car and I think I'm sold. At worse, I've got the exact colour match spray paint if needed where I could put a thin layer with a clear coat to have a perfect match. BTW, I did PM them (Cosmo) about the bracket/brace you said you didn't get, and they told me it came with it. Maybe they got complaints from people like yourself saying they didn't come with one.
Cheers, and thanks for the offer on installation...Help is always appreciated (cabpatch).

i have an injen but after a long road of being used. its becoming scratched and sort of spotty with what would appear to be oxidation. so im gonna sand it down and paint it to match my car probably. sunlight silver ftw!.

Cool stuff everybody. The CAI is in the mail (should arrive sometime next week). After reading some posts on the Quebec forums where a few other ppl have said that the filter is crap, I've decided that I will change the filter, most likely a K&N, simply because it's what is most readily available around here. Anyone know the part number to the correct cone filter? Or at least the dimensions I need. In case you aren't sure what I'm talking about, here are a couple of links:

I have found the correct cones to use from K&N:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RU-4990
and the one I bought:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RX-4990
This last one wasn't cheap (almost 100$ after taxes)...yay for the great white north, but I'll have it for a long time so...

As well, for anyone who wants to know how to install this intake, I suggest you look at a combination of the following instruction sheets from K&N and Injen. The K&N is slightly more thorough, but the images for the Injen are better, and the cosmo racing parts to relocate the reservoir (now included...) and to mount the first pipe to the engine bay are IDENTICAL to these.
http://www.kandn.com/instructions/69-6020.pdf
http://www.injen.com/galleries/products/RD6060_directions.pdf

Hope this helps someone... :)

Some pics for to help

This is where I had to relocate my bracket for the PCV valve (not sure what its called). I just used an extra bolt and attached it by the intake manifold. Hope this helps.
