Cooling fan problem

Hello, I am new to the forum (forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place). I have a 2003 Mazda6 S (which I LOVE), but recently it's been giving me headaches. I just had the throttle body replaced and just prior to that being done, I noticed a loud noise that it's never made before. I did mention it to the mechanic, but it was still happening after I got the car back. They have since told me it's the cooling fan, and it is coming on and constantly running on high for no apparent reason. It stays on for anywhere from a few seconds to a few mins after I turn the car off. The shop says it won't hurt anything and that I should not worry about it unless it starts staying on even longer. They could not give me a definitive answer on what's causing this.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what was the cause and solution? I'd REALLY like to get it to behave like normal again.

Any input is appreciated :)

the loud noise sounds like a large whirring sound after you turn off your car, then yes that is the fans.

They are correct in saying that it isnt necessarily a problem.
They automatically should turn off after a minute or two.
So this is something you have never noticed before, or you know for a fact it did not do this before?

if it is the latter, than you may have heat issues, or simply a small electrical short somewhere that is keep the fans on. check fuses, teh wiring, and make sure you check your oil temp gauge before you shut off your car, take note of where it is to compare to other times that you shut off your car.

GL.

Thanks for the response. Yes I know for a fact that it never did it before. It's very noticeable, and I've had the car for 3 years. I actually have been researching this all evening and found others who have described this same problem, then I came across a recall regarding the fan control module. I entered my VIN on the Mazda USA website and confirmed it applies to my car. So, hopefully this will take care of the problem. I think maybe this is a lesson for me to only take it to Mazda dealerships for service, as they probably would have known about this issue whereas my usual mechanic did not.

I would still like to hear from anyone else who had this problem though. Especially if you had the fan control module replaced, did that take care of the problem?

When I had a 2004 Mazda3 with the 2.3l engine the fans would kick on and off every 10 seconds until finally one day they stopped and the car would overheat plus the AC would blow warm no matter what. Turn out it was the thermostat. There's been about 7 different part numbers for the thermostats. I guess they finally got it right.
