Constant velocity vibration

any update on this? I'm still getting the vibration. Coming up on 3k miles, gonna take it in for the oil change, and have them rotate the tires. Gonna bring up the fact that my front tires are cupping on the outside, and to figure out why. That is what the vibration is causing... cupping.

Got my new snows put on and ballanced on the newest machine available.
Reverbaration still there only slightly less noticable...piss me off.
The dealer didn't charge me a thing and did it all under the warranty as part of the trouble shooting. They don't seem to notice the reverbaration like I do. They do still acknowledge the howl at 70km/hr and want to keep the car for a good 4-5 days to continue trouble shooting. The howl is definitly coming from the drive line. It is present even when you clutch in and shut off the motor (rear diff or axel). They do seem determined to find the problem. I haven't been able to talk them into giving me an RX-8 as a loaner, just a 2000Protege.
Let me know if you learn anything new.

I don;t have this problem ut I am thinking of taking the car to get the alignment checked. I notice my rear wheels are at a mich different camber angle (top to bottom), than the front. Is that normal? I'd estimate is at at least -2degrees, it's pretty noticeable compared to the front camber.

That's normal, the camber is not the same front and back. You really only need an alignement if the car is pulling to either side on a straight level road.

Back from the dealer. They have ordered a new rear diff carrier assembly to address the howl sound.

new diff

Changed the differential out, got rid of the howl at 70 kmhr...WOOOHOOO!
Still have the rolling vibration. Another forum had a guy with exactly the same thing. Ended up being a flywheel out of ballance.

jaque,
glad you're issue was resolved. I have my s6 for 2 weeks now, 1500 miles and took a friend for a ride-first thing he said was whats that noise coming from the right rear? Since then I have noticed a significant hum coming from that general direction at 45-50 mph. If I lift off the throttle it goes away. Would you describe this as similar to what you had experienced?
Thanks,
Greg

I describe it as a howl, mid to high pitch. It would go away as I accelerated through 70clicks and again as I deccelerated. It was also present, but just barely, at 90kmhr.
I have a buddy with a 2003 BMW M3 and his differential howls (whines) constantly. His dealer has told him "that's the price you pay for high end performance". It's way louder than mine was, and constant at all speeds.
They won't even change the fluid as it's a lifetime fill and will void the warranty.

Thanks Jaque,
My sound is not a howl as you have described it which is good for me as far as I'm concerned. Mine is a hum and I'm leaning towards the possibility its a fuel pump sound. The s6 is very quiet compared to my previous WRX so I can live with my hum.
Thanks - Greg

vibration from 60-80

hi i am new here i just bought a ms6 it has 1500k on it and i am also having a constant vibration between 60-80 its only when i accelerate the gas i heard that someone else had this problem and had to get his whole transmission replaced i am bringing my car in next Tuesday to get it checked out but the dealership is probably going to give me the run around but will see

Let me know what they find. I am approaching 15k miles and still have the vibration. I found that if I pull the ebrake one click (brake is not engaged, it just disengages the awd) the vibration goes away. Since the probably only exists at highway speeds (70+mph), I don't have to do that often. I also have found, the longer the drive, the worse the vibration gets. When I start the car in the morning, and drive the first 5 miles, the vibration isn't as bad.

The last dealership I took it to, refused to diagnose the problem because I had aftermarket springs.

I'm not a mechanic, but know enough about cars, engines, suspension, etc... to realize that it is something in the rear. Axle, rear diff, driveshaft, whatever.
