Hi,
It's about an 2001 Mazda Protege LX 1,6l.
The problem: When I turn the key in the ignition the engine tries to start and I hear a gurgling noise out of the hood. I let the car sit for about a minute and try it again for several times. Finally after the third trial (sometimes I need more) the car will start and I can smell a little bit of gasoline.
After this every day morning experience the car runs good and it starts after the first trial when I turn it off and back on again. This problem only happens in the morning. Maybe I should add that I live in a colder place up in the "mountains" (in the morning around 15∞C/60∞F) and I work in the warmer part down the hill (around 30∞C/86∞F).
I already brought the car to a mechanic but he couldn't find anything because the engine was starting fine after the first crank. The car has about 90.000 miles and the timing belt, spark plugs, ignition coils and battery got changed 1000-1500 miles ago.
Seafoamed the car yesterday (took the hose of the cruise control) as instructed. The car was steaming a little bit and now it runs more crisp but the starting problem is still there. Fuses are ok.
Has anybody an idea what the problem could be and what to check?
Thanks
