I am seriously pondering a clutch and flywheel combo. I want to know ACT or Clutchmaster? And Fidanza 7.5# or Indigo 9#?
And for my final nagging probe of info, lowest price for the clutches and flywheels, o yeah ballpark install amount, Mucho help appreciated by a learning enthusist.

I bought the ACT - I hear nothing but good things about them and mine grabs quicker than a drunk goin for a Bud. I would say that you don't want to go TOO light on the flywheel, as your idle might be affected and you will lose top speed the lighter you go.

You will be looking at anywhere between 400 to 600 dollars for the labor to install these parts.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are the advantages of these types of parts?

I've driven my Protege5 about 6k miles now, and I'm starting to hate the shifter and clutch. I know I want a short-throw shifter, but why these other things?

a heavy duty clutch like the one ACT sells for our cars will allow for quicker and smoother grabs between gears. You will feel the car pull sooner when you let off the clutch. The point where the car grabs and begins to move, especially in first gear, is alot sooner than stock. Such a clutch will also be able to handle a little more punishment - i.e. burnouts (tsk tsk), harsh shifts, high rev downshifts, etc.

A lighter flywheel spins faster and therefore transfers more horsepower to the wheels. Horsepower is lost when the engine uses such power to spin the flywheel. The lighter the wheel, the more power goes to the pavement and the quicker the flywheel spins, the quicker the car would accelerate. A super light weight flywheel makes a collosal difference in acceleration.

www.srmotorsports.com offers periodic clutch/flywheel combos as well. And they make a great combo with the short shifter - trust me :)

Rafi gave me a wicked deal on my clutch and flywheel. I got both for 375 shipped!!! I totally recomend www.rr-racing.com he is a good guy and I've spent a lot of money there because he has great customer service and he has great deals. Trust me go with the Clutchmasters/ Fidanza flywheel. I is the best mod I've done so far.

If you're unhappy with the feel of the stock clutch, you'll really hate the feel of a heavier duty unit, and especially one mounted on a lighter flywheel - Been there done that.

I'd suggest playing with the release point of the clutch by adjusting the rod between the pedal and the clutch master cylinder - It made my stock clutch much easier to live with.

You'll LOVE the feel of the B&M short shifter - The OEM shift linkage is one of the worst things on the car.
