Christmas '08

I was one of the salvation army bell ringers in high school. I did it for a weekend.

By the end of the second day, I was hoping that someone would toss a travel size bottle of bleach into the pot, so I could take it out and drink it.

I would have helped you out Sean.

I did it as a community service project. I might have liked it more if the windchill didn't make the air temp 6 degrees.

+1 that's just one of the reasons why I always try to find some moolah in my wallet to give - they're freezing their patooties off to help out other folks...

Christmas pisses me off.

I'm not Christian, but if I didn't celebrate this holiday that I don't believe in, everyone (family, my wife) would give me a ton of crap about it. My wife is even pulling the Santa crap with our son, when I really don't like lying to the kid. Whenever I suggest that we should drop the whole thing before he gets too attached to it (he's 3, if we let it go this year, he wouldn't even notice, but next year it will be too late) she says she doesn't want to ruin it for him, and she loves Christmas 'cause it's fun.

Really, she just likes the presents, and wants people to buy stuff for her and Lucas.

Call me odd, but as I see it, if you're not celebrating it for its religious significance, you shouldn't be celebrating it. It's insulting to those who actually practice the religion.

I can see your point on this....however, my situation is a bit unique.
I am a RC & my wife is Muslim (non-practising...as she drinks, wears seductive clothing etc ect.)...but omg, she loves Christmas. So, she participates because she wants us to be "close-knit" & of course, she loves getting gifts...who doesn't?

Also (I never knew this), Muslims consider J.C. to be a prophet or something...he's mentioned in the Quran...also...good ol' (Noel Baba) St. Nick is from...OMG...NO WAY...TURKEY!!
The basis for the Christian-era Santa Claus is Bishop Nicholas of Smyrna (Izmir...yes where I now live!!!).
Nicholas lived in the 4th century A.D. He was very rich, generous, and loving toward children. Often he gave joy to poor children by throwing gifts in through their windows.

(Not telling you how to run your house, but) Let Lucas enjoy his youth (drinks)

We pulled all the Christmas decorations & tree out of the attic yesterday...we'll put up the tree today. :)

We're probably pulling ours out today.. We're going to have a marathon cleaning day

75% of our decorations are up. Bought a live tree yesterday and the house is filled with the wonderful smell of Christmas trees. :D

Had to buy some new lights today...the ones we were going to put up died...even after changing out the few bulbs that were out. Thank goodness for Target sales...

Lowes has everything 25% off. We got 3 sets of multi-colored LED's to put outside. I'm normally against colored lights but these were so purty, I couldn't resist. :D

I have to take pics of my tree. People came over Saturday nite and asked if the presents were real. I guess they think I stage them since they match the tree. (hand)

i'll snap a pic of mine today. And of Ev's little village. I have a martha stewart tree with attached lights already that I got as a gift from my mummy. go ahead, laff.

lol...Sag Borg strikes again!

I actually am going with colored lights on the tree this year. I usually have the clear/white lights on, but decided to change it up - I had plugged in both strands and they worked, but then when we were untangling them one of them just went kaput (half of the strand did)...

The LEDs are pretty cool - they're supposed to last a long time...

We have pretty white lights on the tree. They twinkle randomly and it makes it look all sparkly. Have the same white lights in garland on the banister. Then icicle lights on the house, the LEDs on the deck railing and then twinkling snowflakes lining the path to the front door. :) I'll take pictures tonight.

Ooh! I also decorated the mantle over the fireplace with pretty garland, ribbons and ornaments.
