Canadian P5 Owners I have a question about pricing

$23,500?? that can't be the "on-the-road" price.. it must be before freight, taxes, etc.. right?

ok, looks like i should've checked my paper work before posting. sorry, but that's 23,500 BEFORE taxes. and that's on a 2003 with moon roof, air, exhaust, auto and a couple other things that dont amount to much. but anyway, as most of you have found out there isnt much of a mark up on P5's. or so they tell us. i think the bottom line is, as long as you're happy with your car then that's all that matters. at this point it's a little too late to worry about whether or not you were ripped off :)

btw, do any of you know about the new graduate cash award ? ($600)... so in this case.. can i get $1600 + $600 = $2200 off the dealer ?

You can get the graduate cash award (if you qualify) in addition to whatever discount the dealer will give (I think $1600 off would be a bit optimistic), because Mazda pays the graduate award and it doesn't come out of the dealer's bottom line.

I am going to walk into the dealer and ask for a $1600 MSRP discount right away. Of coz he wont accept it, but I think I will start from there. He will probably say... "oh ur gota be kiddin me, the max discount i can give is $200... etc..."

Then I may say "Not $1600, then $1400, i know ya can make da deal..." etc...

How much discount should I settle for, you think it is fair?

When you walk into the dealership talking like a know-it-all, you will immediately put them on the defensive and you won't get anywhere except escorted out the door in a hurry.
Go in there with a mature attitude and realistic expectations. Mazda salesman go to work everyday to make money, not to do favours for strangers without putting food on their tables.
My advice is not to push for invoice pricing necessarily, but request some options thrown in the deal ie. cargo net, cargo tray, bumper guard, performance muffler, wheel locks, etc.

Good luck, Mark :)

I rather buy a used RSX than a new P5, hehe
That's the reason I bought a used MP3 instead of a P5....
RSX need to be Type-S for me, if not....it's a waste of my $ to put mods on it.
are you talkin about prefer gettin a used rsx type s or not?

I got roughly $1000 off the price + $600 grad rebate

I dont see people getting much better than this.

$800 and up is a reasonable deal i say.

was close to 500'ish

I was asking about 500 off when I was talking to a dealer last year about the 2002, but I believe they raised the freight prices as well as LOWERED the grad rebate amount (750 -> 600) from last year.

So I'm wondering how much leverage that would ever get me if I mentioned that the price increased by such a large amount.

(Things like administrative fees and freight, I think are pretty freaking bull. Everything else I can sort of deal with.)
