Ahhh so the NA's begin to make some headway. Clearly the NA way has had many pitfalls but once twilight here posts some dyno's i think we will all be pleasantly surprised. again... good work twilight
oh and senor as of now they are our only cam gear options. Maybe if we are lucky AEM will come out with some.
Hmm... From what I have heard, the Protege's cam timing (At least on the FS-DE) on the exhaust side wasn't adjustable without pissing off the cam sensor? I just thought of it, but are there any issues with it for you? Like a CEL or something?
the adjustable cam gears get around this. the part on the cam gear that the sensor picks up remains the same, but the area closer to the centre of the cam gear become adjustable. so all works fine.
nothing yet - have to take the valve cover off to get to the gears. that'll be a real pain in the ass after a while (esp while tuning - extra time to remove the cover and adjust and put back on = more money to tune)
i know the way i want to do it, i just need to figure out the best way to do the cutting. just have to be 100% sure that the exhaust cam sensor is in the exact same possi all the time
Cool, that's what I figured since you hadn't said, but promise you'll post some pics when you get it done. I'm still thinking on it, but I want it done before the cams go in, so I'm hoping you beat me to give me an idea. I'm thinking single big window, maybe divided by the flange where the vc meets the timing cover, for strength. Never did hear from Blake
if i have time this weekend (long weekend here - australia day weekend woot woot) i'll have a really close look at it. i'm still not 100% sure on the way i want to do it because every way i think about it has it's positive parts and negative parts....
Great work Twilight! I appreciate hearing good news from all the N/A guys.
Just out of curiosity, have you even tried to open up the cars exhaust from the header to the cats? I know you gutted the cats, but what about a good header and bigger midpipe? Wouldn't that make your numbers jump at least another 10-15whp(including the exhaust you are getting)? Id love to see someone hit 140-150 whp N/A.
If any body buys the cam gears I recommend installing the washer to allow clearance between trigger and sensor. When I bought my set of gears I had to do the same thing twilight did.
yeah it kinda scared me when i heard the rubbing. i started the car and all was fine. i thought i'd just let it idle and warm up then i can rev the engine and test and take it for a drive. only took a 0.75mm washer and all is perfect. bit anoying that the cam gears arent designed for them...hmmmm
