Broken Stock Intake?

First off, I know jack about engine's so excuse my terminology (yes, thingy and dowad are technical terms) :D

In the front right hand side of the engine bay is a lil black pastic box that has the air filter in it. The front of the lil box, the plastic piping which kinda bends to the right to behind the headlight(which sucks ass) is falling off. Every time I push it back on, the next time I open the engine bay, its falling off again. I don't feel like duct taping this lil pipe to the box or anything, is there a better soloution, or should I just take off the whole box thingy and put on a K&N filter or something and nail 2 birds with one stone?

I'm at work but im looking for a picture already on the boards so I can circle whats falling off the plastic intake box thing. If anyone finds a pic of that area gimme a link and ill show u what part it is.

That little "thingy" you are referring to does almost absolutely nothing. It just helps pull in slightly cooler air from away from the cooling fans.It will not actaully fall off of the car if it attached right. It is bolted to the washer bottle bracket underneath the stock airbox. It may come loose from the airbox but should have no adverse effects on the engine running. You could remove it if you are worried about it falling off or you could just buy an intake and eliminate the prob all together.
Just my .02 cents,
Matt:)

Once I get the cash for an Injen Intake, I'm definatley going that route, but for now, I just don't want it flapping around in the engine. Also, when you buy the Injen intake, does it come with a filter on it already? Or if I buy the K&N now, and take off the stock air box, will I be able to use that filter again on the Injen?

you can take that piece off now. I took mine off yesterday while I was test fitting pipes for the turbo. You can also take the moisture collector off. That will leave you with just the stock airbox with a round hole in the front. I didn't notice any change in power whatsoever.

yea, the thing that says callaway, and points away from the engine is just the snorkel to the airbox to suckin slightly colder air.
Taking it off is harmless.

ALso, if you buy a K&N now, it should fit on the new intake you get. It just clamps on the piping.

The Injen comes with it's own filter. The K&N may fit but the injen is made specifically for the CAI.

No worries about the calloway pipe. It is pretty much worthless plastic.

Seems like there is alot of "worthless plastic" under the hood :wtf:. That will be done away with in time I hope :D
