Boosted MPG

When you are not in boost you MPG does not change from stock, however once you get in boost thats a different story......I just stay out of boost and my mpg is just like stock

I'm just fishing for information.

The poor gas mileage post is rearing its ugly head again. I'm in the group that seems to get very poor MPG no matter what I do or how I drive.

In theory, you should get close to the same MPG boosted unless you have a heavy right foot. But there are other factors that may effect it. Exhaust restriction, layout details, tuning etc...

I was just wondering if boosted members have seen a change in MPG. With Totally different intake and exhaust pluming, it would be interesting to know.

Example: Traveler noted a boost in MPG with his shorty header, but I haven't heard much more about that lately. It may have just been a fluke.

Mine went down a few mpg with my driving style after the turbo. I get about 250 miles a tank at best now.

I accelerate with about 3 PSI and rarely use high boost for more then 5 seconds.

I boost like crazy.... And yes my gas mileage has gone downhill.
I'm not always flooring it, but I regularly boost up to 8psi.

I'd say my gas went from 27mpg to like 20.

SMP do you notice a bog from 6-8 PSI, not that it slows down but you know it should be fast and it just isn't.

Well... I wouldn't exactly call it a bog. But I have noticed that I get to 6psi real fast and then from 6-8 it takes longer. It's wierd.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the feul distribution. Damn ECU. Once we're able to get the microtech system of the reprogrammed ECU FM is working on it should be much better.

Just want to make sure you felt it too, almost like the car goes from a good Air fuel ratio to a rich one once 6 is crossed. Part throatle aslo seems to have much better exceleration then flooring it.

Yes, absolutely. Partial throttle works much better after the FM fix. Full throttle though-is open loop and once again gets messed up by the ecu.

Did they let an estimated date on the computer slip yet. the lasttime I checked it was god only knows.

Ya last I heard it was "god only knows"... But the alternative is to go with Terry's newest hookup with microtech. Very cool system that enables TOTAL control over feul. I'm excited for it, but am going to have to study up on all the feul junk. But this will allow higher boost allowance and is much safer.... It will override your current ECU. With that, I'm also going to buy larger injectors to run with that. ;)

Sounds good if you know what your doing, unfortunitly i know just enough to get by.

I'm not going to make up dates. I'm not withholding information, I just don't know when the ECU modifications will be available. It's that simple...

As for the mictotech system for our cars, I am pushing really hard for January but from the looks of it I cannot promise anything. We are not manufacturing the product so we have no control. We have already sent the stock ecu, wiring diagram manuals ect to the mocrotec boy's........now we are just waiting. The car will have default settings that will allow to drive the car, then we need to get some microtechs in a couple of cars (to craft up some maps (fuel and timing) for our cars) and have these pretuned maps available to you guys so little tuning time will be required.

Hopefully everything will be completed by the beginning of Jan and then we can begin our R&D

Shhweeeeeet!

Well I should be able to get it and I'm pumped!!! Without upgrading engine components will this allow us to run higher boost than 8 or 9 safely?

I noticed the "partial throttle" acceleration was really good and at "full throttle" it doesn't seem to pull as hard. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has seen that.

Anyhoot, I'm waiting to see what FM does. After seeing what they did with the Miata that was in their shop while I was helping to put in my turbo, all I can say is "WOW"!

Patiently waiting to see what FM has up their proverbial sleeve...

Oh yeah, as for the original question on this post, I think my mileage actually got a little better...I don't go into boost all the time, but I hit it on a regular basis.

I've been in the 280 mile range per tank as where I was getting 260 before. Then again, it could be because I have been more careful to stay out of boost if i don't want it.
