+1 The problem seems to have now increased itself to when I accelerate. I have an appointment tomorrw to bring it in, but I worry about how competant the Mazda Techs are. Plus of course when I go there with my limited time the noise never shows up. I am very tired of Mazda service!
Plus there is such little information on these forums to help out and pinpoint the issue. So far one person on the other forum mentioned that the dealer found that it was a belt problem and replaced the tensioner on the vehicle.

Yeah there is only a little info about what is causing the noise, thats why i decided to post my info about it. I figure if it can help out one person then its worth it.
The first time I went to the dealer it seemed like they didn't want me there. The last time I went I got a lot of attention and was treated really well and I was dealing with the same people. I hope they can work with you and find the problem. Let us know what happens.
Well as we speak my car is currently sitting at the dealership to have the squeak addressed and the exhast smoke. Hopefully I will be able to give you guys full details as to the corrections or fixes they come up with. I actually video taped the ehaust smoke and showed them the footage. They immediately look at it and appeared perplexed so we will see because they called mazda.
Hey, how or when are you seeing the exhaust smoke? In the past week, I have seen two pretty large clouds of smoke when I take off at highway speeds. I launch and in the rear view mirror, I see a cloud. Is that what you're finding too?

Sorry to thread Jack guys, but the smoke is usually taking place in the mornings and not anytime else. Try and video tape it if you can, I did and showed the dealer.

Ok here goes, the squeaky clutch pedal is indeed an issue and Mazda has a fix for it. However looking on the invoice that i got back it does not give a part number. However it is described at "installed new clutch position switch".
My squeak is now gone. Turns out it was not the belts but rather the round hub and spring hinges on the exhaust. The tech was able to duplicate the sound and states " exhaust gaskets squeaking. Cleaned, buffed, and installed copper grease" So far there has been no return of the noise. I will give more of an update later after some longer driving. I hope this information will help someone.
i had a very light belt squeak, but never paid much attention to it. last weekend i noticed a tapping sound coming from the belt side of the motor. had one of my techs look at it, and turns out i need a belt tensioner. anyone else needed one?
I had a belt tensioner replaced this morning after hearing a slapping or knocking noise. I heard this noise mostly with a hot engine, ac on, at idle. My fear was rod bearing or, to a lesser extent, fuel knock. I hope the tensioner was the actual problem, but as it was clod, wet, and I was late for work so I haven't verified this fixed it. If it didn't I will report back.
