Anyone with a hesitation/clunk prob... please read.

MSP & MS3
So my car's ext. lights won't go off once I put the alarm off... (very annoying) so I call up and make an appt with the so-called mazdaspeed expert. (my sales guy hyped this guy up like he was the second coming) anyway... while on the phone with the guy, I mentioned this seemingly widesrpread problem with both hesitation and "the clunk". Thinking he'd automatically know what I was talking about and assure me a solution was on the way (even though I haven't experienced either... yet) to my surpise, he had no clue as to what I was talking about. started telling me that the mazda 6 has a problem with its bushings and the base protege sometimes hesitates... but he seemed surpised to hear so many MSP owners across the country are having this problem.

Now I've read the complaints... it's clearly a problem. Infact, it seems as if Mazda is well informed and even working on a solution. Why the hell is this guy so clueless? Don't get me wrong... real cool guy! But... I need to know what's up! I'm goin in on Wed so... even though this is last minute, if you guys can put as much into this thing as possible... that would be great. I'm going to print it out and show him... prove I'm not makin this s*** up. Thanks

Well, if the service dept has not had a car come in with the issue, they probably dont know about it. Mazda will NOT put that info out freely yano. :D so, that is probably the issue there.

DAMN!!! After hearing so many people on here b**** and moan about hesitation and clunking... I figured this thread would get a lot of action. Guess I won't have much ammunition with me tomorrow when I go to the dealership. Oh well... L8R

why dont you just print out one of the 50 threads there have been made about hesitation...

I'll add on to what boostisgood said:

The service departments are going to no nothing more than what they personally look into for either themselves or their customers. They will not get memos from Mazda telling them that there has been a "widespread hesitation issue" and they know of it, and are working on it, but there is no timeframe of when it will be done or what it will include. What will happen is, when a customer comes to them and complains that their car is experiencing a hesitation problem, they will first look to their computer database to see what has been done for similar issues, check for TSBs, and when they still don't know what to do, call Mazda technical assistance....at that point they will learn that Mazda knows of a hesitation problem, but they don't know what is causing it, but they are looking into it, but they don't know when a fix for it will be out (if at all **not starting a flame war here**).

Soo, it's not a surprise that your service manager does not know of either the clunking problem or the hesitation.

Hope that clarifies some things for you.
Peace,
Jesse

so does that mean they'll have to unplug my battery?!!!! right when I had all 8.4 billion options programed EXACTLY the way I want on my radio!!! ARGHHH!!!

chico, i feel your pain on the radio. Ive yet to figure out everything on this damn thing. My friend who test drove one even said this thing has games.. and im yet to figure that out..

GAMES???? Hmm... haven't found those either but what a strange concept!!! speaking of stereos... a lot of the so called experts who review cars had a problem with the tiny buttons ours have. I've got relatively big hands and I STILL don't have a problem with them. Sure, I guess it would be better if they were bigger... but to me, it's not a big deal. I adapted just fine... what about the rest of you? Hmm... maybe I'll make a poll out of this. Second thought, NAH!!

ooooh!!! yeah, I know what he's refering to. It's the screensaver. You can choose from a bunch of them... All you have to do is hold down one of the blue buttons until you get to the menu... from that point, cycle your way through until you get to the screen saver option. it's sort've cheesy if you ask me... but hey, if it works for you go for it!

I'll have to post my dyno sheets soon.

Anyway, the hesitation is caused by the fuel dump the car does at high spool. According to the dyno, if Im reading it correctly, the Fuel Air ratio is 10/4, then at high spool it goes to 10/1, too rich for our engines to burn properly. When I boost to 9psi with my EBC, It stutters because I don't think the fuel pump and/or injectors are capable of giving enough fuel.

Phrisco. its too rich, not too lean, if it leans out it would detonate and tear the motor apart in short time. Too rich and you get the power loss/hestitation.
Ive yet to see it(225 miles), but i am ordering Joe P's FPR soon, from what i hear, i think everyone should, this helps safely lean the a/f out, and get back the lost power from the dumb ass ecu.

Man, don't you read any other threads :).. The fuel pump and injectors supported 18 psi on mine on pump gas, trust me- 9 psi is nothing for it to handle... I ran 12 daily for almost 8000 miles when I had my car- however, it was "tuned" for it....

Go to my site- www.joepmbc.com and click on either the pic of my MSP or the Mazdaspeed link up top- they will both bring you to the MSP products page. Thanks.
