Any way to adjust a squeaky, rattly slider?

The left rear door on my 08 5 has a rattle and squeak to it when driving. We only have 34k on our van and we bought it new. It's 34k of city miles mostly with poorly maintained PA roads. Any way to adjust the door to stop the squeak or is this just the structure loosening up as the miles go by?

I would start by giving the "catch" mechanism on the lower track a good oiling with actual light oil, not WD40. Its the little thing that looks like 2 stubby fingers sitting behind the door support that has the "no step" symbol on it. I would lube all that stuff up and see if it helps. I did that to mine because it sounded like a 1976 Econoline van when opening/closing the doors and it helps tremendously. Since the catch moves in at least 2 ways, it is very possible its moving loosely in 1 of those ways when the door is in the shut position.

The creaking noise that I have experienced in the sliding doors of Mazda5s is from the rear catch. This has happened both on our 2008 and 2012 Mazda5s. These catches are silver "hoops" of metal that are attached at the front and rear of the door jambs. Just put a couple wraps of electrical tape around the central portion of the rear "hoop" and this ought to do you. Just don't put too much tape on it otherwise the door will seem sticky to open.

I can't speak to the previous generation, but there is a TSB for the 2012 M5 models. Mine is doing the same thing. I just found out about the TSB today. It goes in tomorrow, so I will report back once its fixed.

Attached is the Canadian TSB the dealer was kind enough to email me:

My dealer in VT also gave me a copy of this TSB for the creaking sliding door. I tried something as close to the solution illustrated as I could approximate at home but it didn't work well. It just made opening and closing my sliders tougher. In the end, the couple wraps of electrical tape around the door pegs worked much better.

Problem solved! No more rattling from the sliders. I've been driving it for a few days and the problem is gone.

I do have a trim panel that is making some noise, but that's an easier fix.
