Hi, just got my new baby here 3 weeks ago ...

Actually I'd like to get your opinions for installing the best and decent rate alarm systems for the Protege5. Is it better just go with the dealer of perimeter alarm with sensor shock system or other local stores to visit such as Best Buy or Circuit City.

Any good product (brand/model type) that you guys/gals can recommended, well i hope the cost won't go more than $250 bucks though. Less is better for sure since i'm already broke now with the car payments and auto insurance fee. :-)

thanks in advance.

any alarm system recommendation will basicaly be biased.... just make sure the one you want has DUAL SHOCK SENSOR...... so your car wont go off when a chipmunk farts.

thank you, ZiO on the dual sensor shock suggestion. Does the dealer recommended perimeter alarm come with the feature you mentioned ... What would dual sensor shock do compare to typical alarm system? Is that mean you have two ears to listen instead of one ear analogy ....

thanks in advance for the replies.

What is means is that lets say you DONT have one.. and someone hits your car... the alram goes off... if you HAVE DUAL SHOCK.. then i hit your car, the alarm will 'beep' or give off a 'warning sound', then if you hit it again, it will go off... unless of course you smack the crap out of the car so hard it will go off on the first hit.

as for what the dedaler recommends, i dont know.

Viper 550 ESP

I have had a Viper 550 ESP in the past 2 cars I have owned. I am having it installed in my 02 protege on Sunday. I will be wiring the AUX button on the remote to toggle underbody neons ( once the car has started ).

Great Alarm, Remote Start, lots of options.

i have been thinking of getting an alarm too... how hard are they to install?

sorry, couldn't tell you

Not to hard for me, I pay my installer $100 bux and he installs it. I did pay $269 for the alarm if that helps. I bought it when I worked at Circuit City and was able to get stuff at a discount. Maybe try to find a friend who works there or at a Best Buy or Similar place.

Nice part is buying the extended warranty on everything and then returning stuff and getting new stuff. Case in point - I returned my Sony IP5 and got a Sony IP55 (Camcorder), I also returned my 2 year old Car alarm, just a mess of wires, relays, remotes, the alarm, and the horn, in the original box. They gave me a brand new alarm in the box. Now I have nicer looking remotes! Supposedly the range is better too. But I'll have to see about that on Sunday.
