Sleeeepy P5
I like to kayak in and around MD,VA,DC. And i just bought a P5 bout a month ago. Good thing is it has a roof rack, bad thing is the antenna is smack dab in the middle of the top of the car :( I want to get some crossbars and rubber mounts for a safe hold found this site http://www.a1-autoracks.com/roof.html I was wondering if I bought one of those short antenna they sell on ebay would it be about 3-4 inch tall and has anyone installed one of these and if they did any pics??

Thanks guys (usa)

I actaully like the antenna, it reminds me of an R/C car, which I think is pretty sweet.

go with the dave b all the way! not sure if he still makes it or not. this is a shot from last winter with ice still caked on but you get the idea!

i got a shorty antenna last year for one of my christmas gifts and it is only like 3 inches long, as opposed to my buddies which is like 5 inches for his focus shorty antenna.

Just snap it.... no seriously.... take the antenna off and you will see the bottom is about 3 inches long is a fatter rubber base, than from that extends about 16 inch long fishing pole thats thinner. Take the base, and it should flex, and flex it until you hear a snap. Than pull the approx 16 inches of fishing pole from the 3 inch rubber base. It takes alot of effort to pull it apart, but it will come apart. You wont lose any FM reception, only reception you might lose is AM.

This is what it should look like when your done... http://www.floridamazdaclub.com/forums/index.php?&act=garage&CODE=14&type=garage_gallery&id=217

I did the exact same thing, except I sawed mine off (it was a little easier that way). Just snip off the thin portion of it and keep the fat little stub as shown in DeadGeneration's picture. Like he said, you won't lose any reception on FM and it's not like anybody uses AM anymore nowadays.

I got an ebay one used from another member. Pretty clean. AM does goes to s***, and FM is 95% of what it used to be. The best thing is, when I sell the car, I will have the stock antenna around to put back on.

Same here... if you want pics on how my 'tenna looks, pm me with your e-mail.. the reason I did it--if I messed up, and didn't like it, I could always spend 10 bucks to fix it.
