Alternators and capacitors?

I've been reading up on past posts about replacing alternators, batteries, and caps but I'm still a little confused. When is it necessary to replace the alternator to a higher output one? I'm currently running my amp at 8 ohms and I'm planning to buy a new sub and run it at 2 ohms.
Also I'm getting mixed information on caps. Someone said that its only useful when you're competing in dB drags and other than that it just causes more strain on your alternator and battery. But someone else said that for our cars we need 1 farad per 500 watts rms.

Caps are not going to help a failing or overloaded alternator!
Caps just supply a charge and help to maintain the voltage tot he amps for the amps best performance a side effect of that is they also tend to help the lights form dimming becuase they give the amps another source to draw from besides the alternator but only for a few milliseconds.

When you exceed analternators rating by over 120% you start to damage it. So you will need to upgrade at that point. Of coarse music is not a steady load so that canbe stretched some.

The 1001 has .5 farad of capacitance built in so another 2 caps can help but may not be neccisary. Xtant reccomends adding another battery in the back for the best results with that amp.

With that amp you have to run 1/0 power and ground before anything else, running it to the alternator and replaceing the factory ground from engine to battery is a good idea aswell.

If this is the only amp your running then first thing to do is upgrade the wiring, then add 2 caps, then add another battery in the back of the car, then an alternator.

I was running the 1001 and a 604 plus possibly adding another 1001 so I knew I had to add the alternator.
