A studpid question, perhaps.

However, I am a first-time turbo owner. None of my friends have forced-induction cars, either. So I need to know if this sound is normal to the MS6:

I can best describe the sound as a "ringing". It begins at a high-idle and is most noticable at normal, non-aggressive driving speeds with the windows down. I suspect it is related to the turbo, however, it sounds a little too thrahing to me. I do not believe it is valve chatter.

Any feedback from my most trusted car authority on the web would be appreciated!!!

Thanks

Take it to the dealer and get the service guy to ride around with you and point it out to him. When he says "That's a normal sound for the MS6"
Then you say "OK then let's get in one that you have on the lot and go for a test drive and see if it makes the sound"

OK, so I made n appointment and took the car in to have this sound checked out. The tech guy said he does hear the sound, but he cannot repair it. He took the serperntine belt off - thinking that was the cause - but it did not remedy the problem.

Unfortunately, there were not other MS6 around to compare with. There were 2 MS3 on the lot, but he was unwilling to compare. So for now, the problem (am I imagining it??) is still there.

A little more info for the cognoscenti out there: This ringing I am hearing I have only noticed since the weather has turned nice. I am now able to have my windows down. I hear it upon start-up because the revs are high enough. It is definitely a right-sided (passenger side) sound. Revving the engine over 4000 either a.) eliminates the sound or more likely b.) engine noise drowns out the sound.

Because I am pointing out the right-sided nature of the sound, I am thinking turbo. It is a ringing sound (sort of like bearings w/o lubrication) that reminds me of the bell ringing style of older telephones - definitely not a whoosh of turbo. Coudl lubrication to the turbo be blocked? What about the purge valve replacement? I am on my second replaced purge valve. Coudl a faulty valve be causing this?

Sorry about being a bit wordy.... Just trying to give good examples.

Thans for all of your help!!

Take it to another dealer..... and the MS3 shouldn't have made a difference with the comparo, same engine, same turbo........ so if it was natural it should make the same ringing sound......... i don't know of any turbo whatsoever that makes a ringing sound..... you say it sounds like the old telephones with the bell and hammer inside it blnblnblnblnbln??

is the turbo located on the passenger side of the car? when you say purge valve are you talking about the blow-off valve? I've never heard a ringing from the BOV either.......... You should go to another dealer if there is another one within driving distance of you, I'm located around 2 mazda dealers.... one is 2 miles, one is 6 miles, and the other is about 15 miles away from my location.

I would go to mazdausa.com and locate another dealer for you to go to. and call to see if they have any MS6s on their lot. That's the best I can do for you man.

The ringing sound is right. I would say it is MOST noticable at cold start-up and until the car reaches normal operating temperature. However, that does not mea that the sound goes away once the car warms up - it only becomes a bit softer.

Thanks for the input. I have a number of dealers in a nearby range that going to one should not be difficult. What kind of treatment do you get when you go to a different dealership than the one you bought the car from? That is my onlyt reservation about visiting anothers' service department.
