95 DX electrical issues after installing LED dome light

Since I bought my car, the dome light hasn't worked. So I bought some cheap 12v 31mm LED bulbs on ebay. I popped one in and nothing happened so I tried the second bulb and nothing again so I took it out. Went to drive my car later and had the following issues:

Aftermarket radio won't turn on. The backlight flickered a few times but no more than that.
Check engine light comes on about 10 seconds after I start the car (haven't had a chance to scan yet)
Also noticed my trunk light didn't come on when I opened my trunk (will test the bulb tomorrow)

None of these three events had happened before I tried the LED bulbs, so I have a feeling they're all connected. I checked the appropriate fuses, they're good as well. I'm stumped as a MF (scratch) Anyone have any ideas?

Are you sure you checked ALL the fuses? There is usually an inline fuse for the stereo receiver, located behind it somewhere. The check engine light may be because of a failing battery. I'd give it a charge and if it doesn't accept it, replace it or have an auto parts store or Walmart run a load test.

Wow, sorry for the delayed response. I never got an email, so I wasn't aware there was a reply. But yes, if you're referring to the fuse on the back of an aftermarket stereo then yes I checked it, even replaced it and still nothing. As for the engine light, it was hell finding someone to read OBDI but I finally had two separate places hook their scanners up, and neither one got a response from the ECU. The battery is actually only 3 months old as well. My only guess at the moment is maybe a wire or ground shorted out?

Did you check for 12V at the stereo fuse with ignition on? If you have volts out of the fuse, your stero receiver is suspect. The stereo, dome light and trunk light must be on the same circuit.

Now if all else fails, you may want to take your car to an auto-electric shop. They specialize in solving weird electrical issues. I'm sure the check engine light is unrelated.
