Wooohooo!!! I just went to the best gas station in the world (of course chevron) and while searching around for my octane booster bottle I discovered that the pump I pulled up next to had 87-89-and 92 octane gas!! I was like :D

So I went in and tlaked to the clerk and he told me it was a new thing Chevron was trying out at one pump per station in phoenix. Best of all- it's the same price as the 91!!!

Next step-look for places with 93!
:)

I can get 93 about anywhere I look and have a Sunoco with 94 octane 2 miles from home. I run 94 for daily driving, and it's only about .02 more per gallon than shell or BP/Amoco. :)
I also use it before every autoX. Seems to be working, at least in my mind, so i keep using it. :)

I have a place about 5 minutes from us that have c16 leaded race gas! I call it crack for turbo cars........lol

All gas stations in florida have 93 octane. I try to stay away from chevron though. Have had bad experiences with knock and ping due to there abundant usage of detergents and cleaners over compettitors. I have had good luck with amoco and sunoco gas. None of all that fancy shmasny stuff.....just good gas. And thats all that I use when I can.

I never thought of it before but I ran into a buddy that works at a local oil company. He mentioned he can get just about any fuel by the barrel if he wants. I the company he works for actualy bring in the gas for the local race tracks. He mentioned he has frequently bought 100 octane.

He also told me the cars computer has to be reprogrammed to handle the higher octane. I thought this was bulls*** but didn't say anything. Was he right?

Yes actually. Running such octane gas on a car will have no affect unless you can reprogram the computer to run more ignition advance, hence taking advantage of the higher octane because the gas is actually raising the detonation threshold of the motor.

On a turbo car you can run the same boost with more saftey or a little more ign advance ( like our MP3 ecu's) Or you can actually run a couple more psi of boost since the high octane fuel has just upped the knock and detonation threshold of the motor.

Over here in Australia, our standard fuel is 92 Octane, Premium is 96, and most stations have another fuel like Shell Optimax which is 98 Octane. I've run my sp20 (p5) on 98 octane fuel since the day i bought it home from Mazda...

And i thought our fuel was crappy! :D

100 octane

There are some shell stations in Virginia that have 100 octane for about $3 a gallon right from the pump.
