88 323 gtx help!

hey guys im new to the site and i wandering if anyone could tell me what tranny i can put into my awd gtx, its an 88 and the synchros are shitting on me. if anyone can tell me the car that may have the tranny to replace it, i would greatly appreciate it!

That is a very hard unit to find. Even in the UK . That car is used in autocross or rallying.

yea, the weakest link in my opinion, but i thought maybe there was another mazda platform that worked on it, oh well.

rebuild is pretty much your only option unless you have big pockets.

Ive heard of people making the JDM BG GTX trannys work, with some modification. Much stronger and not glass like yours. Or if you really want to go deep, get an Evo Trans and do that swap. Someone did that in NZ i believe, and it is much much stronger.

pretty sure you can swap the 1.8l bp trans and rear diff. most people throw out the trans when they import the motor for their front wheel drive cars. check out feoa.net, protegeclub.com and toprotege.com for 1.8l awd trans. search around there is a how to swap guide somewhere on the net, cant remember which forum has it.

The transmission kits are available from most parts supply houses. Buying the parts from Mazda is pretty crazy on prices.

The 1.6 and 1.8 diffs are the same size and ratios. If you are going to swap a BP turbo gearbox into the car the transmission tips the motor a few degrees. You will also need to get a jack shaft sorted for the passenger side. The 1.6 axles will not fit the 1.8 transmission.
