2008 Mazda 5 double din install - help and advices needed... (title changed)

Hello!

Since my cd changer don't work anymore I'm considering buying a double din dvd unit. I want to connect the steering wheel controls to the new unit but the units I've been lookin at only supports analog controls. Is the mz5 controls analog or digital? I have read som threads about this on the forum and someone mentioned an adapter (I'm not sure of the name) to convert the signals from the controls to the unit but I couldn't figure out if they converted from digital to analog or from analog to digital.

I would be greatful if someone could help me.

*Edit*
Since I'm going to install a double-din unit it pops up a lot of questions all the time. I changed the topic in order to make a thread about my double din install.

I haven't bought the unit or any other parts yet. Need some more help/answers before I do.

This is the one that I know about.

That was not cheap. Are there any other adaptors that works fine? Can someone confirm if the signals from the swc are analog or digital. As I mentioned in my earlier post the unit I'm thinking of purchasing only supports analog signals. It would be great if I didn't have to buy an adapter, just connect to the wires.

As I mention in the first (edited) post I'm about to order and install a double din unit. Some questions pops up.

1. At the back of the stock radio unit there are two connectors. The big one I figured out is for the radio ISO connectors (audio, Power etc.) But I can't figure out what the other one is for. I guess the antenna goes in there among some other things. Do I just leave this connector unplugged when I install the new unit?

2. How do I connect the antenna to the new unit? There isn't any standard antenna plug as far as I can see on any pictures of the stock radio.

3. Still don't know if the steering Wheel Controls are digital or analog and what a module/adaptor actually does. Anyone?

I'm sure I will have more questions later on.

I found a
with guy doing the install in a 2009 or so, which is the same I believe, perhaps check it out.

I know it says 2012, but there is no way it is a 2012.

That looks like a Mazda 6 to me.

Go to the Crutchfield web site and enter your vehicle then browse for install accesories. The steering wheel adaptor should be in there. PAC and Metra make adaptors that you plug in and they basically teach themselves how to funtion with your selected head unit. Ain't modern technology wonderful? If you buy your stuff from Crutchfield they will even include a "master sheet" which takes you step by step through installing all your new stuff. HTH

Hi!

Just wondering did you manage to get the steering wheel controls working with your new head unit?
I just bought the same Mazda 5 sport model 2008 and fitted a new head unit. The controls lost their functionality since.
Be nice to know how to solve this issue.

Thanks,
Ryan

Thank you for the replies.
I got the connects2 interface from Dynamic sounds and the steering wheel controls are now working.
Very pleased with it.
Don't think the Metra kit is available in the UK but the connects2 does the job.
Again many thanks
