I'm a little confused about when to take my P5 in for it's first service. From reading the manual.....I was gonna go with the 5000 mi interval......since I have frequent short trips(work about 5 mins from home).......but then I got an email from the dealer of a "special on services"....$25 or something like that....and it listed 7500 mi service.
At what mileage did you guys have your first service done?

well..
where r u actually in california?
I live in Southern california, just put 3000 miles on my car..but I had the first oil change when I hit 2000 miles..I put in mobile 5w-30...fully synthetic.... My plan is to change the oil arond 3500 to 4000 miles from now on..

just for your ref.

I'm in Northern Cali....Silicon Valley....I did arleady change the oil once...and am about to again.....but just wasn't sure which maintenance schedule I should follow for everything else. I have somewhere around 5700 miles now.

I changed the oil in mine at around 2,200 miles with Mobile 1 5W-30 Synthetic. I now have the oil changed at every 5,000 miles. I am about to have my third change done at 12k miles. I'll be getting my first dealer service at 15k.

I change my own oil...changed it out at 2000, 5000, and just changed this weekend at 10,000.

I think the manufacturer's spec (5000 mile service intervals) is valid. I use Mobil1 10W30 (manufacturer recommends 5W30 or 10W30, but since I live in Socal, I'm sticking with 10W30).

actually, i was reading this brochure thingy from mazda and they had different intervals for each car. Like the protege(5 & sedans) were 7500, the truck and the van was different but i cant remember what at. I changed my oil every 3k up until like when i hit the 20k mark. Thats when i read that thing. i think 7500 may be a bit much cuz i drive a lot soo im just gonna go with every 5000. Im about to hit the 30k mark, think ill take it into the dealer to do a bit more than just the oil change.

oh, btw, i always use mobil 1 10w30, but for the last time i put in 5w. so yea, peace

don't forget to rotate those tires. I do mine at about every 5k.

Also a little lube on the hinges. visual check. is easy todo at home.

And I always ignore those stupid "special service" mailings
from the dealer. The dealer won't ever see my p5 until I
hit a big service number -> 30k or it dies.
