ztec in a protege

Hmm, that is the first I heard that. Thank you.

edit: for installshield.

I went on a quest to fit the KL-ZE in the protege..It WILL NOT fit....Do some measuring..It just won't clear it. Unless you do EXTENSIVE fab work..Besides, once you did..Thats it..The miller cycle supercharged motor is basically maxed once you put it in. Eh..go turbo

How can you say it would not be difficult? Nothing would bolt up properly, and almost every part of the installation minus the engine/gearbox would need to be custom...That would be the type of project that would take years with a normal owner's income...

I think you mis-read...

The Miller Cycle engine you are thinking of is not the KL-ZE. Check out www.corksport.com and look...their KL-ZE's are not supercharged. The KL-ZE would probably fit pretty well in a third gen, especially if it fits in the first gen. I have seen pics of it installed in a 1st gen. The only major problem you would run into would be engine management. I was going to do this swap in my GF's MX-3 until a guy in a Durango ran her off the road and totalled it.

How did you measure it?...KL V6 and the gearbox on every car they were ever in almost always needed to be installed from underneath, meaning it was impossible to "lift" from the bay...You would need to get underneath the car to measure the subframe points horizontally...Overall the length from the Timing Belt (front of engine) to the black tip of the transaxle is a little short than an FS with gearbox mounted, from what I remember (that is up for debate though...i had to use old data when I measured)...Where I got messed up measuring was the rear bank (or left bank) clearance with the firewall...I never got to measure that accurately...But have you ever seen the engine in a PGT? It was so tight I don't know how they ever got it in there...Overall we have more cubic ft of space under the hood than a flip up headlight equipped Probe GT...

Also remember that clearance issues with a lot of the pumps, fans, radiator, hoses etc. would need to be changed anyway, so they do not matter...The only thing one would need to worry about would be the physical dimensions of the KL v6 istelf...The gearbox uses pretty much the same case...

You may be right though...I never had both cars at the same time long enough to do a truely accurate comparison...but from the old numbers I had it seemed to be ok...Also 2.0L Probe's FS's were physically the same as 2.0L Protege FS's, and the Probe 2.0L shared a lot of misc pieces with the V6 models...so basically so do we...

Also dude, are we talking about the same engine? The KL-ZE has nothing to do with miller cycle, nor is it supercharged...It is a 200bhp 2.5L all aluminum Mazda V6...

You would only need an OBD-I V6's wiring harness...corksport sells the JDM ECU for the ZE at around $350...If you already have a north american KL ECU you can trade it in for the JDM one for free...

i asked because i saw that a jackson racing supercharger is made for the ztec engine. seeing as how i love superchargers and how ford and mazda share alot of stuff, i was wondering if a supercharged ztec could be droped into a p5.

i got the idea from monster miata

the only shared items from ford in the car are the ECU and the seatbelt fasteners I believe.
