Yup..Clouds of White Smoke from my turbo

Ignorance is bliss my friend.

Smoking turbos = is a single factor analysis.

Not a single person with minor engine mods has a smoking turbo. Your theory of the engine running richer or adjusting it's fuel trims because of the intake, causing more oil to spew into the exhaust is hardly realistic and has no grounds of proof.

I've got the rest of the forum as proof. It's an obvious assumption given that almost EVERY time you install some form of exhaust modification to our cars, they will indeed smoke.

Not true. My early '07 has only a K&N air filter and a motor mount insert. Bone stock in all other respects. My car smokes at idle as well, but they're replacing the engine due to low compression on #3 cylinder. Whether that fixes the smoke probly remains to be seen. I thought for sure it would be the turbo, and maybe it still is, but they were told by Japan to do the compression check. I'm unsure if they went as far as removing the intercooler, i.e. I don't know what tests were done in what order. But basically, when a problem is found, they go no further until that problem is fixed.

damn. I just got my corksport dp/rp and now I am a bit scared to install the thing. its 2008.5 with 2600 miles and if I see it start to smoke at this young of an age I will probably cry. I guess I didn't do enough research before I bought this car....

i should be getting my cobb tbe monday. i have an early 07 with only 14,500k + ms cai, i have noticed a light white blueish smoke during cold starts. it doesn't happen all the time but it certainly does happens, now the question is what can be done to correct the problem after a tbe replacement ? replace the turbo? will the reworked K04 turbo from Protege Garage solve this problem?

if in fact my car does start smoking, would that mean that the turbo is not gonna work efficiently and is basically broken? there is more downside to a smoking turbo than having to deal with visible smoke correct? cause if that is the case, then it is BS that mazda wouldn't replace ANYONE's stock turbo even if its been bolted with a catless dp since all the stock cat does is HIDE the problem. I never thought I would be sitting here contemplating the crap out of whether or not I want to install my full tbe =/

Hey hows it going guys? I have a 2007 speed3 with 27000 miles + and had the same smoking problem out of the pipe. All I have done to the car is a CAI and a Corksport CBE. I took it into the dealership and they said they would need it for a couple days. The next day I recieved a call for an update on the car, and the lady said that they are replacing my turbo and some oil pan gasket too or something. All under warranty. Should have my car back by tuesday.

Ok at 34k mine started to smoke at idle as well! I was at a light and I smelled it and I was like ok, someones car is smoking really bad!! Turns out it was mine!!! Ugh!!! Taking it to the dealers tomorrow for an oil change and I'm going to use the thicker oil and let them know about this!

Took mine less than two weeks after the change to start looking like a chimney. There's a reason Mazda stopped doing the switch to 40w oil... the reason is certainly not to speed up the process. It's because it doesn't work.

You'd laugh at their "fix" for the poor Mazdaspeed 6 guys. The final "solution" is to replace the turbo with... the same turbo that keeps failing. And no further action is to be done. Come next year every MS6 will be out of warranty. Convenient, no? I wonder if we Speed3 owners will face a similar fate in a couple years, since the promised "fix" is nowhere in sight.

(I read this at MSF, by the way).

At least the RX8 guys got an extended warranty for all their troubles.

Mazda should change their slogan to "Mazda: Maybe your second engine will fare better than the first."

That PTP trinket didn't do s*** for me. Nothing. Well, unless you count wasting my money. I suppose that's something.

Smoked like a chimney before the install, smoked like a chimney after the install. I read plenty of others who say the same. I have seen few people say it actually worked. Most of those never really had smoke, they were just trying to prevent it. That or they changed to thicker oil, installed a catch can a d put the pill in at the same time. Even that only lasts for so long.
Maybe some get lucky and this thing works for them but there are two sides to every coin.

Most of the time, white smoke has been a turbo issue.

I did notice he has a Mazdaspeed Catback..

Does the manual say anything about allowing a heavier weight of oil?
no more, they quit that s***, and started rplcing the turbo up front

I know exactly why my turbo smoked. I replaced the turbo, no more smoke. I only wondered why that "pill" didn't do s*** for me and the others who said the same thing.
I hope 30 million people buy this thing, PTP seems like a good company. But since you wrote "Let everyone know about it" I took your advice.

I believe the continued smoking has a lot to do with the extent of damage to your seals. After a certain point, nothing will help you. I've had good luck with the PTP fix, but I contribute that to installing it as soon as my turbo started to resemble something from a Cheech and Chong film. The day I first saw smoke, I immediately changed the oil to 5w-40. This relieved the problem until I installed the "pill." I'm back to using 5w-30 with the fix in place and have no issues. I guess, in a nutshell, I've found that PTP's fix is more of a preventative measure than it is an overall solution, and is only effective to a certain point. I still have yet to go catless, so I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Just my $.02.
