I wanted to add some thump to my car but I don't want to add too much weight so I was considering using a stock MSP sub enclosure. What's everyone's opinion on the stock setup? Is is a nice addition with some decent bass or is it not worth the trouble because the enclosure is made of plastic? I've read that some have added a deeper 8" sub by using a spacer but I was wondering if it would be possible to use a 10" sub by cutting the opening out with a router. All opinions and comments are welcome. Pics of your setup would be great if you have them.

I thought about doing that as well but there is not enough support to add the 10. Stick with a good 8 inch woofer and you should be good. I am sticking with the Original enclosure because I want my trunk space. Thinking about going with a JL but using a different amp for more umph! Will be switching all the system to Pioneer from Kenwood. Used to be a Kenwood fan but after looking at my Bro's Pioneer deck there was no going back. I used to be into the Bass thing but not anymore. Just cruising it with a nice, unoverwhelming thump is all I need.

I'm still rolling with the OG amp & enclosure but I upgraded the sub and had a spacer installed as well. Like Dark Angel said, I'm not into bone-rattling bass and by tuning the HU filters properly I get a good crisp notes with a a solid bass that lets me enjoy the tunes w/out being annoying to anyone w/in 10-15feet of my ride...

I added a 8" Jl w3 and its a pretty good amount of bass. You just have to add like a 5/8" wooden baffle to get it to fit. I have the factory amp cranked half way and it sounds fine. I might get an aftermarket jl amp with more settings though to fine tune the sound. If you want pics of the setup: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123782952

I added a 9" Jl w3 and its a pretty good amount of bass. You just have to add like a 5/8" wooden baffle to get it to fit. I have the factory amp cranked half way and it sounds fine. Yours was one of the first setups I saw with the spacer. That's what got me thinking about a bigger sub while trying to keep most of the space in my trunk.
