your first 500 dollars to spend on your mp5

My "first mod" suggestions:

Get tint.. p5 looks like a soccer mom car unless it has a good tint job.. This is VERY IMPORTANT.. if you don't.. people will ask you where you got your minivan from... :)

3M coating on the front of your hood and headlights/fogs.. the paint blows.. doing this when your car is new will help keep your front end looking new.. as apposed to like it has measles.. like a lot of these cars do within a year..

My first 500 (and quite a bit more) went to rims and tires. I think getting a new set of wheels is one of the best s to start setting the tone for your car.

good point. my first money went to my tein springs, which i had before i even signed the load paperwork. hence, i really have no clue what it feels like to drive around in protege5 with stock suspension. i only put like 75 miles on my car before i installed the springs.

I would have gone for the performance driving course...but hey, it's your car. do what you want to do with it.

(by the way, our car got top ratings for its STOCK halogen headlamps in terms of visibility...even beating the Audi TT's HID's)

slow drivers drive fast-looking cars...fast drivers drive anything.

Very true right there. Our headlamps beat out most cars out there. In one test it was the only halogen lamp car to hit the 600 ft mark. Don't bother with the HIDs unless you like to annoy people with your headlights.

Don't mess with Hid's, our cars don't need them. Drive the car stock for a little bit. Get the windows tinted. Buy an intake and drive around for a little while, get used to it and then upgrade to a short throw shifter, B&M in my opinion. Then with what you have left join SCCA or a local autocross group and have fun. Then when you get some more money go with springs and exhaust.

I just bought a new P5, and I know some of the first $500 I spend on mods will definitely go towards tint. Another $50 just went toward a bucketful of new detailing supplies to keep her looking new. Other than that, I am just going to enjoy the car stock for now.

I am intrigued by this 3M film you speak of, can anyone provide more info (typical install price, who does it, etc?) Thanks.

someone posted an article from import tuner i believe on the board, but youll have to do a lot of searching because 3M is too short of a search term, and therefore youll have to type in import tuner or whatever and read every thread about it.

btw, welcome to the board.

i have no mods on my p5 either, so im thinking for my first mod when i have the winter tires on is to powdercoat the wheels black

first 500 bucks spent on injen intake and some reference components and an amp for the front doors

This is what I suggest:)

H&R springs -$190
Kartboy short throw shifter - $100
Depending on if you are performance minded or go strickly for looks the last few bucks I would put towards Tint or a Custom Exhaust both can be bought for well under $250
