You might be a soldier if...

I might not agree with 4 years, because the military just isnt for everyone. 2 years is plenty of time to get disciplined. if you arent disciplined in 2 years you wont be in 4 either. but ive been saying for years everyone should do some time in a service to get a greater respect for this country and its leaders, as well as a respect for yourself. being in the military totally changes your life. you can put up with anything. for example, before i might have had to be really comfortable to sleep. now, if i slept through bombing, gunfire, rockets, jets, and helicopters in iraq i can easily sleep anywhere at anytime. also, youre physically fit. sure every service has overwieght soldiers, but did you know that only 7% of the male population can do over 13 pushups? for my age group the minimum to pass is 50 and the max is 78 in two minutes. i did 74 last pt test. damn. anyways, you get my point.

air force does pay more and treat you better..but..we dont **** around in the army..you desk jockey air force wussies dont stand a chance..keep it real

I say 4 years, if they act up toss them in the brig, as a matter o ffact thats what they should be doing now. Anyone who doesn't sign up for selective service should be tossed in the brig. All these homeless dudes who under 35 should be put into the military too. Sh*t they have nothing going for them anyway.

I'm trying to reclass into the lauguage division of NAVY intellegence. But I've gotta take the DLAB again. I needed a 100, got a 99(argh).

I've talked to some MI's down @ Hauchuka when I was there. It's some intense training. But it's a funny story how I met them....

As far as manditory service, I thinks it's a great idea! Why do you think no one messes with the swiss????? They've got that law in place.

Make sure you know what kind of conditions you would like to have before you choose your branch. Now I'm not knocking any of the branches, each has there own advantages. It all comes down to personal preferance.

I'll speak up for the officer side. I am an Air Force Officer, got my commission through ROTC (go to school and participate in ROTC training events scheduled by your local detachment), though you can do the academy (full paid scholarship, though you are on their terms for four years), or OTS (once you have completed your degree on your own). The pay is higher (though in some cases I wonder why) and some jobs are only available to officers, which is true for enlisted, as well. For instance, if you wanted to fly in the AF, you have to be an officer. This isn't necessarily true for the other services, you can be a warrant officer to fly choppers and stuff (not as well informed there).

Btw, I personally fly C-17s out of Charleston. My biggest perk for being an airlifter, I fly into the warzones, land for a couple hours, then go back to where I launched from to sleep in a hotel :) and watch cable :)

I used to push pallets on them there C17's. Boy am I glad I don't do that anymore.

hehe, did you get out? of course, they are now putting C-17s everywhere, mcguire, march, hickam, elmendorf, travis, etc

i like being enlisted because i like directly dealing with other soldiers. im not in it for the money, im in it for the pride. if anything, ill go warrant officer once i reclass.

why do you need a 100 on the dlab, are you trying for a CAT4 language?

Got out in 97, my wife is still active duty. We where stationed in Elmendorf when I was in. So they are putting C17's up there now?

i fall into so many of those categories, these especially:

You ruin the movie for everyone around you by pointing out the unrealistic military scenes.

You always back into parking spaces.

The only suit you own is your Class A uniform.

No one understands the stories you tell because of all the acronyms.

Holy s***. That is me to the T. :D

When you're stopped by police for speeding, you give the excuse that you've just returned from Germany where there are no speed limits.

Got a story about that one...

A kid I went to highschool with came home from Iraq about a month ago for R&R. His mom gave him the old taurus station wagon as a gift so he and a friend went down to Providence and got s*** faced. Anyway, the friend is driving the car on the way home and a minute down the road from where he lives they drive off the road and total the car. They were going about 60 in a residential neighborhood.

So they called AAA (not AA) and told them they were in an accident and wanted the car towed the half a block to the friend's house. Then AAA told them they had to call the cops. Anyway, the local police show up and my friend tells them that he was driving and if they arrest him for drunk driving he will get a dishonorable discharge and won't be able to go back and fight in Iraq.

The cop wrote him up for speeding in a residential neighborhood and left it at that. Truth was, he was being restationed out west somewhere (Nevada Arizona, can't remember) and was getting the car for weekend excursions while he was there, since you can't get anywhere w/o a car.

My other friends feel bad for him now. They want to pool some money together to buy him a cheap car. I haven't decided whether I am going to donate to the cause.

When ever my family is getting ready to go somewhere my dad still says "Lock and Load". Sometimes he gets as far as ". . .and engage the enemy" but not as often anymore. He got stationed in Alaska during Nam and requested to be restationed where the action was.

You might be a Marine if.... you make fun of the Army all the time.

Sorry guys, couldn't resist that.

Just joking, we're all brothers in arms.

I can relate to some of those...of course the Marine Corps never sent me to Europe, but in Oki we drove on the wrong side of the road, hit the turn signal and the wipers came on, people drive a motorcycle or scooter without a helmet or goggles, etc. There are a few differences with services and duty station, but there is never a shortage of stupid people in the military. lol Anyone ever notice the # of DUI's?

Not sure, that's just where the standard is. I'll find out some more info on it tomorrow

someone is bullshitting you then if they said you need a 100...the minimum is 95 for all mos's. now if you wanted to go for arabic, mandarin chineese, or korean, you need a 100. i scored a 98 and had the choice of persian farsi, serbo croatian, russian, and a few others.
