Yokohama vs. Kumho

MinnowGT - the Ziex 512's we've tried, the list we had there are for strickly summer use.

Being that you're in Cali, you could use the 512's year round b/c they evacuate water quite well.

We've tried them in 1-2" of snow, and that was plain crazy even if it says "M+S" on it.

For summer rubber we found that the side walls were a little too flexy for our tastes.

Otherwise a very good bang 4 the buck tire.

I have the Kuhmo 711s, not the 712s, and I love them. I went the cheaper route, and they are still great. $62 for a 17" tire? SOLD! And they handle great. Wet traction has been amazing so far. As good as the Dunlops. Never tried the 712's yet, probably never will. If I decide to step up to a performance tire, it will be the Kuhmo MX. They rule.

In all these talks about tires, Nitto's never seem to come up...Is there a reason?? Are they too expensive, or just not good tires?? I have them on my Civic and I absolutely love them. I had the Khumo Ecsta Supra 7's or whatever, and I am happy with the switch. I thought about the Nitto's for the MSP. I can get them for $375. Thats good right?

I've got 712's on my P5.

Although they seem to be wearing a bit quickly(compared to the stockies), my Kumhos are f-ing great! Super grip in the rain and unbelievable grip the dry tarmac. They've been "Hwy 236 Approved"! :D
I've heard that they really suck in the snow, though. Really suck.
If you live somewhere like me where it never snows, the 712's some of the best tires around, IMO.

EDIT: I noticed that where you live, it snows. The Kumhos suck. (gossip)

There is no such thing as a decent snow tire in out size. 2 sets of wheels and tires are the only way to go.

I have the ES 100 on my P5 . The treadwear is 280 Temp AA
and traction A . This tire is good on the road specialy raining day!!! But when i race with it , it is not that good
If race i will choose Parada but if on the road i mean normal drving i think ES 100 wil much more better than the Kumho !!:bs:

I think the last good tire Nitto made was the Exit 505 but thats been disco'd for quite some time now... too bad.
I personally dont like any of their tires out now. Ive yet the try the new Neo's though.

I am using the NeoGens in a 215/45/17. Dry is super sticky, but what is really impressing me is the wet handling. I have used Kumho 712's and Yoka A520's, all sorts of dunlop and BF Goodrich in the past, and never have I experienced wet traction from a ZR rated tire as the Nitto NeoGens. Just my .02

Pricing at Discount Tires

Is $523.88 too much for a set of Yokohama ES100 or about right? Includes life time balancing (and rotation I guess... woopee doo  ).

I wanted the Kumho MX, but I don't want to pay for the extra fee to have them special ordered (it's like $10 per tire!). The price for the ES100 was initially much higher, but the Spec-2s are priced lower and they didn't have them in stock. So, they are pricing the ES100 at the same rate as the Spec-2.

They do have Kumho 712s for a little cheaper, but they won't discount the price of the ES100 to the same level. :D

I figure I may just get a good set of 17" tires for regular daily driving (all purpose type) and then go shop for another smaller set of wheels and tires for autocross racing.
