Yokohama vs. Kumho

does anyone have Yokohama AVS ES100 or Kumho Ecsa Supra 712 rubber on their cars? if so, do you have anything good/bad to say about the tires (specifically treadwear and ride quality)?

this is so funny, I am looking for new tires.. And the two canidates are:

Kumho MX's and
yokahama EVS ES100

the only reason I would go for the Yokahamas is because it would cost me about $120 less

I have the Yokohamas. But for only 1K miles. Ride is great, not noisy or anything, feels good, too early to notice tread wear.

I just put the ES100's on my MP3, they are decent but the dunlops 9000 could definitly rule their ass.

yeah, for their price they better:rolleyes:
that's why I went with the Yokos. still quality and it's not like I'm taking it to the track.

my SP9000s mostly bald were better dry handling then the Yokos.

I just couldn't afford the extra $150 for the set.
exactly, same here - plus, no one around the area had them in stock so I just kind of gave up and figured I'd save myself some serious $$

I was just in the market for both these tires as well. I will tell you what Rishie told me on the phone. He said he didn't like the Ecsta's and reccommended I go with the EVS100's. They look better anyway. I ultimately went with the Spec-2's which have a higher tread weat rating.

I personaly have Yokohama Parada Spec 2 and those tires are bad ass, haven' had any touble with it. I can take the car on twisty roads and even if the car kicks out going about 85-90 mph it is still controlable. The tires grab the road good. As far as the ES100 I have brought it a few sets for my friends and they love it. Awsome wet traction. I would recomend yokohama to any one. If you want to get crazy go and buy som AO32R's or some Advan Neova's.

I just put a set of the Kumho 712's on my car and I was a bit suspect of a no-name (well at least to me) tire vs. a well known brand. but since i replaced them at 34k miles (just over a year old) i figured i could try them out and it wouldnt be too long before they were replaced again. i still have the stock wheels - so i stuck with the 195-50-16 size. i think they were ~$280 shipped to my door and another $45 for mount balance etc...

after a couple hundred miles i can say i like them. dry traction is pretty good - i didnt really notice a difference between these and the dunlops.. there may be one but i truly havent driven enough to tell. wet traction seems to be better than stocks - or at least better than the stocks on my car at time of change (6/32 tread left on the front - a bit less on the rear).

The main concern was the reports of noise in some reviews. i havent noticed much difference - so i dont know if people installed them not realizing they are directional tires - but once im going i dont notice much more noise than the dunlops. ive taken a few corners at decent speed and can say they hold quite well and it isnt as easy to break them loose when it rains (just normal driving - not trying to spin tires - any jackass can peel out in the rain). but its hard to complain when the set is less than one tire for my other car.

i would (so far) buy these again

well, from what i've read here and in reviews elsewhere, i don't think i'll be going with the kumhos. between treadwear issues, and excessive noise, i'm gonna focus on the yokohamas. since tire life is an important feature for me, i think i'll shell out the extra bit of cash and go for the 300-rated spec-2's....still taking comments/suggestions though.

Another tire you guys may want to consider in this price range would be the Falken FK451's.

The only tires we'd recommend to our clients are:
Falken FK451's
Yoko AVS Sports/ES100's/AVS-i
Pirelli P-Zero Rosso
Bridgestone Potenza SO-2PP/SO-3's
Goodyear GS-C
Michelin Piolt Sport
Continental Contact Sport

iON, could you elaborate on your reasoning--specifically for the Falkens and the yokos? also, why do you not recommend the spec-2's? i appreciate your help (in advance)!

For an entry level tire, both are actually not bad. Especially for the prices that they are offered. You might want to check out the Hankook Ventus. This is also a pretty good tire for the price.

drumsbeloud - we can fully endores the performance for the Falken tires since we've done both wet & dry track testing at 240km/h+ speeds w/o problems. They are one of the biggest bang for the buck tires available.

In regards to the Yokos, the Parada's are more of a "look" tire then an actual performer. They don't evacuate water as well as the ES100, they don't stick as well in the dry as the AVS Sport or I do.

question for ION ?

have you guys tried the Falken Ziex ZE-512s?

I see they have a better treadwear and slightly lower traction.

for ~$30 bucks less they're right in the kumho 712 price range.
but seem to beat it in all categories.
