Well I'm now the lucky owner of a skuffed up front right bumper from the smart guy who tired to take advantage of the opening between my car. I guess the guy was cutting through the parking lot to save time I'm assuming and he ended up cutting the corner too tight and went right into the side of my front bumper on the left. At first it looked REALLY bad with the HUGE black marks on the bumper but after a bit of Goo Gone and rubbing, a good portion of it came off. He did do some paint damage but I'm assuming that I can just buff it out.

Now here's the question I'm left with, I have two people who witnessed the kid hit my car and took down his license plate number and also provided me with their contact info as witnesses to it. The thing is, the kid who hit me left a note, which I'm assuming was out of fear of people freaking out, and left a bunk name and phone number. Well since I had the license plate number the officer was able to verify the brief description the couple gave me about the car.

Where my decision comes in is do I let this fly and just see if I can get it out and then if I can't and it needs to be repainted that I pursue a hit and run with the police, or do I just take it up the tail pipe? That's the question...

Chris

depends. what is your deductible and how much damage you tink is done. Have the kid give you a couple hundered or threaten to file a report and he'll be screwed, in case he doesn't wanna fork over a couple hudred

Well..If he gave you a bum name, then I would persue it because he is trying to get away with it...How do you know you got a bum name?

And on another note..If you have AIM...Will you hit me up TooSlowSol
Thanks

I'm sort of of the same mindset man, if they left false contact information that's not right. Are you sure it's a bad name and number? have you tried calling? Could have been a friends car or perhaps he just bought it and the paperwork hasn't all gone through yet?

LOL... yea I was sure I would get that response. I know it's a bunk name and number because #1 I called the number and asked for John, and yea, a woman answered and said I was calling the wrong number. Also the people who witnessed it said it was a guy so that X's that out. Then when the cop ran the plates on the car he filled me in that the owners name was NOT John by any means.

About the rest, I think I'm gonna just see if I can buff it out and just give the guy some mercy on this one. If their is damage I'll probably have the police report filed with the info the cop gave me. He stated I should wait to see what the damage is and then they'll go after him for hit and run if their is damage. I'll keep you filled in.

Chris, That blows. Sorry to hear you got swiped.

Honestly Hit & Run is not OK. Even if the damage can be fixed with a quick buffing the act of leaving fake contact information on an accident is a crime.
While it may be comendable to let it slide it does send a message that it's no big deal to damage someones property and lie about it.
Make him take responsibility.

Well stated.

Very well stated.

You are extremely lucky to have witnesses to the accident that were prudent and quick enough to get not only a description of the car but the tags as well, and were kind enough to give you their contact information if it is needed.

Get the police report, don't even try to buff it out yourself. Take pictures of the damage, and get an estimate or two from a body shop. Once you have the police report, contact the owner of the car and demand payment in full by them. Tell the police you want him ticketed/fined/arrested (not sure what your local laws are) for hit and run...even if there is no damage, it is still illegal to leave the scene of an accident unless all parties involved agree it is OK to go.

Don't waste any of your time and money trying to fix it...the owner of the car is responsible. Few people ever get to learn the identity of the hit & run driver who damaged their car. Take advantage of it. He obviously has no respect for other people's property, and deserves no respect nor any mercy from you.

WTF is up with the color blind comment?

your car is yellow, every color blind person can see yellow.

yeah dude... the guy obviously isn't an honest person nor a good driver...
he's prolly some punk who thinks he's the best driver in the world and above the law...
do everyone a favour and tag his a$$ with something before he attacks
another innocent mazda... or worse...
someone (somebody's mom/dad-sister/brother-daughter/son). think about it...

people like that don't deserve a drivers license.
on top of that.. he's prolly telling his friends how "slick" he was for acting
honerable infront of witnesses by leaving you bunk info...
knowing very well that you'll prolly just get discouraged and blow it off...

There are three kinds of colorblindness:

Dichromatic (see B&W only, VERY rare)
Red/Green (most commmon)
Blue/Yellow (really)

So not every colorblind person can see yellow!

I'm red/green and even I can't imagine confusing blue with yellow. That said, I opened the thread expecting some actual colorblind person had run a red light and hit chriscrooz!

Now you know, and taking the time to tell you that, makes me a tool!

Oh, and for the record, I think you should press charges, too. Ordinarily, I'd say just ask the guy to pay for the repair, and leave the law and his insurance out of it, but he gave up his chance for a civil solution to this when he left false info and took off, so nail his ass to the wall!

my grandfather is dichromatic, and all though he technicly sees black and white,I can ask him certain colors, and he can tell me one of witch happens to be yellow.

I happen to be red/green,I have no issue with seeing yellow.

as far as blue/yellow,I have never heard, blue yeah, but not blue yellow.

if there was a yellow CB,then they would be green aswell, since blue and yellow make green.

BTW,sue the s*** out of the ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the reason for the colorblind comment isthat Crooz was rear-ended hard awhile back and made that statement about how can you not see a freaking bright yellow car.

Andyes, I'll be less crude about it, because it's not merely a "hit 'em wher eit hurts" kinda situation. There was intentional misleading involved, and realistically, if you let him get away with it, you're only rewarding these actions. If you hadn't had witnesses or a note, you'd be flaming pissed and want to be ab;e to tag someone for it, yes? It's not necc "oh it's not that bad" somuch as it's principle.
