It was not really crowded but it was a good day. While it was hot my protege5 ran 17.1, 17.0, and 16.97 all @ 78 mph. Later on when I was kicked to bracket racing I set my time at 17.05 the temperature dropped a little and I ran a 16.5 with 20 pounds of air in the tires and no air filter. I am all stock, plus I have side airbags, sun roof, ABS which makes the car heavy. My friend works at a truck stop and it weighed with me in it 2850. also I left the roof rack on too.
My friend Tomas who has an 1993 escort gt with the bp mazda motor which is in the first generation proteges finished in second taking home 150 bucks. His qualifying run was only 14.8 due to retarding to much on the exhaust cam. We did this just to **** with the honda's. He raced two preludes which he beat running a 14.5 @ 91 mph. The next was a teal in integra which he toasted and running a 14.3 @ 91.9 mph. For first place he was going against a type R integra which did 13.8 all day. We knew we were not going to beat him but we tried to make him red light so we could win. It did not work, but the race was close up until the end. The type R integra guy said to tomas he was kinda scared there because he never seen an all motor BP motor stay in front of him that long. He told Tomas to keep up the good work and said he might buy a protege5 and drop an 1.8l turbo charged gtx. I laughed and said nah just wait until mid summer when I get my cams finished.
Our cars in the 1/8 mile are quicker or very close to preludes and integras but our cams have no top end. They will do 120 mph but it takes a little longer. If anyone has spec like duration of stock cams and of the sport 20 cams please post here. I already have blank cams from mazda speed.
