Yellow fuel light???

I have been told it is about 2 - 2.5 galons left when it comes on. So if you are getting about 22 MPG, the you have about 20-50 miles to go until you are really screwed. I usually don't push it much more than 20 miles when it comes on if I can help it. I don't want to be stranded out in the middl ef nowhere. I usually fill up on quarter of a tank, but sometimes I forget :-)

the fuel acts as a coolant for the fuel pump so don't intentionaly drain it every single time.

Hit up on the yellow fuel light the other day... filled tank - found out it was 1.5 gal left when the yellow light comes on.

That's assuming that the gas pump flowmeter was working correctly. That's a big IF in some places.

yeah last thing you want to do is call AAA cause you thought you could make it last for 20 more miles. I also remebering the fuel pump being a recall item(Mz3) so last thing you need to do is get real low in fuel. I don't like it getting below 1/3 cause I cringe at price of filling the tank up.

Let me check the State seal next time (wrc) ...LOL. When paying $2.34/gal - it better be right. Welcome to Hawaii.

Heh!

yeah i pushed mine about 20 miles after it came on, it didnt like it. It started sputtering right as i got off the exit ramp. Luckily the BP i use is right at the end of the ramp, i just throttled it a tad and coasted in. I was like damn, remind me not to do that again! Shouldnt be too much different for the 3

wow but its never good to run completely out of fuel, i head to the pump when i have about a a third or left, doesnt seem as punishing to the wallet either sine im not paying that much for each time i go

The light does not come on at the same fill always, but you are at right around 2.0 gallons when the light comes on (it's actually somewhere between 2 and 2.5, but I'm not sure where). I did 67 hwy miles at approx 65mph after the light came on.

if you are already at a high rate of speed with nobody infront of you to break your stride and coasting at the cars natural resting idle then yes it's "possible" to squeeze a few more miles out of the suposed mpg rating. but in all actuality if you really want to leave a car on the side of the road then thats your business. Here a car brakes down at 12 noon and is left over night at 8 it's stripped and on cinderblocks and by 9:45 DC fire has put the blaze out. I never ride on fumes!

This is true. My sister used to drive around on empty all the time and killed two fuel pumps. The first was the original and the replacement died after a year or so. The dealership told her not to drive on empty and it hasn't happened since.

I always fill up at 1/4 of a tank.

Funny thing is, I get better gas milage if I let it go down to 1/8 or 1/16. Prolly has to do with the weight of a full tank of gas vs the weight on empty.

Man, I used to live at 4th and Atlantic, SE...Anacostia. It's not funny, but it is. You are dead on. There was a high-rise on Southern Ave that kids used to drop the car at when they were done, and set it on fire.

I have always waited till the light (sometimes past that) to fill up (both on the 99 GrandAm and 04 Accord) and the fuel pumps have been fine so far *knock on wood*

When the light comes on (in those 2 cars) there was always 10-12L (about 2.5/3 gal) and that's enough to last about a 100km spirited driving.
