Yeah, a fast P5 is expensive, but when you think about it....

Well, I think you're nuts for spending that much dough on a P5. :p (then again, I spent a lot restoring my 914 and it's slower than the P5) You could simply go buy a '98 Z28 for ten grand (or less) and run damn fast stock. And you'd have two cars. I do really like my P5 but wish it had another 100hp and RWD or AWD. But hey, this stuff what makes the auto enthusiast world go around! Lots of different ideas and tastes. Good luck, it will be fun to watch it come together. :D

not even close.

You won't get a crown vic to beat my car in acceleration, handling or braking, or in gas mileage - 24mpg would be generous too.

I am not sure what other car, but a P5 is a great car to build a daily driver beast with.

You know, there are already a few out there that could. Kenne Bell comes to mind. I know what both cars are capable of, and my preference for a high HP daily driver would be an automatic transmission equipped boat. I've done about 4K of mods to the protege, and it's impressive-but, I spent 3K including the purchase of my vic and it got close MPG and had way more power, was more comfortable on my 120 mile commute, handled quite well, and wasn't very attractive to law enforcement. And I could comfortably fit my kids in the back seat without them kicking the backs of the front seats. I'm old and like big luxury cars.

Those are my reasons, I'm sure they vary a bit from yours.

who cares how much money he spends on HIS car to make it the way he wants it?

I've spent that much and MORE than he has, and I have absolutely no regrets about it. My car is just that, MINE, custom tailored to what I want it to be. If I had started out with a "better" car as some people say then I would of just spent that much more making it the car I want it to be.

I also don't care about resale value, this car will never get sold, unless something so drastic and terrible happens I don't want to even talk about it. So to those who say its a waste, speak for yourself. This car is my hobby, not just my transportation, and I'm sure 65racecoupe feels the same about what his car is and why he is doing it the way he is.

Screw the sleeper kit. With all of that engine work, THUMPER is the only way to go. :)

You won't be getting 24mpg if you're hitting boost all the time.

IMO, what's the point of turbo'ing a daily driver if you are concerned about gas prices? Going FI means premium gas. It also means if you want good MPG, you gotta stay below 3k rpm's. So you'll rarely be hitting boost.

My car's an automatic, but with a header, pulley, and catback exhaust, it feels so much better than stock, and yet still takes regular gas and gets good mileage because I don't feel like I have to go into the higher RPM's to make decent power.

Don't get me wrong, I've always had a big smile on my face when I've gone for rides in turbo p5's and msp's. But I used to own a Trans Am, and I know what that kind of power is like as a daily driver. Great to have, but I fully used its 310 hp about 5% of the time I drove it. The difference is that the Trans Am makes that power stock from the factory. I've seen lots of threads about people screwing up their cars because of the turbo. I do see you're being smart and taking precautions, though!

But the point I think a lot of people have been making is that it looks like you're sinking just under 10k into your car. The car itself is probably worth 10k. People have tried selling their modified cars for more, arguing that modification = more value. For most people, it doesn't.

You might wanna consider upgrading the brakes as well - going faster means you'll be using the brakes more in traffic, too...

Anyways, good luck with the car. I'll be keeping an eye on your progress as well as the others.

my car is getting about 35mpg highway right now :)
still getting at least 300mpg to a tank :D

I feel EXACTLY the same.
People especially talk about reselling, but I will be keeping this car forever!!

In 30000 miles of driving, I've not gotten better than 25mpg in my P5.

Are you using your trip odometer when you fill up. No offense meant bro. 25 just sounds way low.

I am close to 400 miles (many on the freeway) from full tank to gas light, which is 12.5 gallons or so (14 gallon tank, but I don't let it get too low).

I get anywhere between 26-29 sometimes, and it doesnt seem to matter how hard I drive the car. Maybe just a/c usage for me.
