Yakima Mighty Mounts

Hello,

Does anyone know which Yakima Horizontal Mighty Mounts will fit my factory crossbars for a 2009 Mazda CX9? I know that Horizontal Mighty Mounts are used for Upright Yakima bike racks such as the High Roller or King Cobra. I just can't seem to find which mount to use. I would suppose I can go with the universal one but rather get a better fit. There's a posting for a vertical 10V mighty mount but it won't work for bike racks.

Any info or suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance.
Peter

Yakima doesn't support anything having to do with the factory rack. They only support Control Towers and it looks like they're finally supporting Q Tower now with new clips for the 2008. The last time I checked the only option was the control towers. So it looks like I can just spend $50 to get my yakima basket up there... Good luck with the mighty mount stuff, sorry I can't help there.

I thought that's what the Mighty Mounts are for. Factory Crossbars. I'll keep on looking. I'm sure one of those many mounts should fit.

thanks,

Yeah, but I don't think Yakima supports the CX-9 factory rack in any way, at least from what I can tell. I even called their support number awhile back when I was trying to fit my low riders on the factory rack and they said no go, and didn't mention anything about the mighty mounts.

These Yakima Low Riders and bars work perfectly on my 2008 factory rails. Had my ginormous space case on them. Fits fantastic and easy to put on. The factory cross bars are not worth keeping IMHO. You DO need to order the proper size "claw" separately.

What the heck. There are different size claws? Where were you last year when I was trying to figure this out... I called Yakima and they said no go. Do you know what "claw" you have and are you running with the stock rack? I don't have the stock rack, but I've been trying to find a way to get my yakima stuff on this thing for over a year now. Has anyone tried the Q Tower setup on the CX-9? I'm not totally sold on that option yet, but i'm starting to warm to the idea of it just because it would be my cheapest option.

I will look tonight. I had the Thule towers on my other car and they worked fine but I was always worried about paint scuffing with them and I was right to be unfortunately. The factory rail is pretty good and the Low Riders go on very easily and seem to be very sturdy. They never touch the painted roof of the car.

That's another reason why I was wary about the Q towers and clips. I never had a problem running them on some of my older cars, but am a little wary about putting them on the 9. I loved the low riders on my Montero Sport. They were super easy to put on and never scuffed up the rack at all. If I can get the right claws I would spring for the rack. I know it only holds 100 lbs, but I don't think I would ever exceed that limit.
