XEDE Tech support thread & User maps

Smart. I see a career in politics or sales ahead for you. I try to be friendly enough, but it's hard to hide that I think they're gonna try to screw me over at the first opportunity.

Man are you way off, I am an archaeologist. People have a hard time screwing you over when they like you and the way to your tech's heart is through his stomach.

you could also use an adapter to run the sensor in the tailpipe. this is more or less what a dyno run would do, take readings from the tailpipe. either way you are tuning from a 5 volt air to fuel ratio. for the most accurate reading, yes 36 inches downstream from your turbocharger is where you want to be.

EGT is somewhat redundant in my opinion when you have a wideband. i know some people disagree with me on that.

could a technician void your warranty if you weld in a bung and run a wideband o2 sensor? sure, he could make the argument. we voided warranties at my dealership for boost gauges and boost controllers that were sitting in the trunk, uninstalled, based off the customer's intentions - hows that for cruel? can you fight the dealer or mazda on that? sure.

like it or not, modding your car is a pay to play situation. there is always going to be a risk of getting caught, always going to be a risk of doing harm, whether those risks are major or minor. part of modding your vehicle is acknowledgement of that possibility of risk. can the risk be minimized, certainly it can. can it be eliminated entirely? i guess if you don't want to modify the car period then yes it can. analyze the modification you are about to make and weigh the possibilities and gains. knowing your dealer and having a good relationship with the dealer is also something. if adding a sensor to the stock exhaust is going to make your dealer flip out, then i suppose adding an aftermarket exhaust is totally out of the question? if thats the case and warranty is paramount to you, that dealer may not be the best dealer to go to.

just my .02

Nutari and Captain:

Good points indeed! With my previous 2 cars, Miata and RX8, I knew the service manager and they were cool with me. Of course, most of the parts that I installed were Mazdaspeed anwyay but I did my own installation so that could "potentially" void the warranty.

I even heard of a customer that was using aftermarket lug nuts, he was denied a warranty claim on his RX8! go figure! Even Mitsubishi was after the forum posts looking for people to deny warranty. Heck 1 AX will void warranty! This was just ridiculous!

This "new dealer" is brand new to me and no idea what to expect and of course the "only way" to avoid warranty problems is to leave the car stock.

However, we all know is a matter of using common sense, thus the reason of going the XEDE route, TMIC(BEGI) and exhaust (I'd love a Borla exhaust here).

At this point, I'll go with a dyno tuning after I have done some street datalog runs with the XEDE, get AFR from the tailpipe and call it a day.

If I keep this car long enough, I might end up adding a EGT gauge as this was very useful when tuning my previous turbo Miata.

Now going back to regular programming :)

Thanks
Carlos

I agree completely.. Tailpipe wideband works fine. Or it is possible to use an OBDII scan tool to tune with. It is a little bit more difficult to interpret, but works none the less.

Dyno tuning has it purpose also. But street tuning is an absolute must! Personally, I would tune on the dyno for the power and fuel curve. Once that is done and optimal power is achieved on the dyno, then do street tuning. Street tuning will be minor corrections to make transitions from cruise to power easier and smoother. It will also tune thru all the gears and idle.

Shouldn't you be out digging somewhere then, and not just hanging around posting stuff about your car? I figured you must still be in school with your post count.

The guys at my local Mazda (and Nissan) dealership seem to be under great stress. I think there might be too much pressure on them to screw people whenever possible for them to be moved to kindness by donuts. But, you never know . . . . Do they seem to prefer Krispy Kreme or Dunkin' Donuts? Maybe the Captain can tell us.

I gave them dunkin and I go to africa every summer, for digs. Almost got my Ph D, just need to get some funding to go back to africa, so I have a lot of spare time on my hands, despite having three jobs if you count the digs I do in africa, and being in school. I also have been a member of this site for 2 years because I used to drive an 04 3 that my wife drives now.
Back on topic, Stephanie, did you guys do a street tune of the program that comes with the xede.

How about offering a discount on the Xede until PnP is available? I'll buy one now if so! hehe... I have yet to look at the actual plug/connectors for the ECU. Is it possible to pop out the male/female pins from the plug and just crimp on a new pin on the wires and pop it back onto the plug? Would be better than cutting wires...

That is possible. It is slightly more complicated than pulling out a pin. You'd still have to cut another wire though.

More and more maps will become available as more mods are added to a car. Granted there will be minor differences between exhausts and air intakes, etc.. To load a new map: Turn key on. Connect computer to Xede unit. Open the desired map file. Press <ctrl U> to upload the map. Press <ctrl B> to burn the map. Turn key off. That's it.
Any chance you'll get this to work with a Mac?

The software is windows based. Only way would be to use a Windows emulator. Sorry!
Bastards!

Yeah, I could use Boot Camp, but I have an allergic reaction any time I think about buying Windows.

Not sure how exactly the boost control works going off your explanation, but how much boost exactly is 14.8% more than stock?
