Alright.....**** the blue book. It's a tool of the dealers. Kelly undervalues ALL of the cars in it, except for extreme luxury. This is so when you go to trade in at a dealer, they can under pay you like s*** for your car. You want the value of our car, go to edmunds.com, or even better look in the auto trader and see what they're going for at market. All the "books" are designed to give dealers an egde.
And you shouldnt be buying a car for the resale anyway, you should be buying it because you love to drive it. My family has NEVER traded in a car, we drive 'em till they drop, and after at least one engine and/or tranny swap. We had a GMC van with 260,000 miles on it. It went through two motors and three trannys. My first car, a suburban, went through two motors and two trannys (and that bad b**** had a supercharger on it......mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, supercharger).
IMO
When i bought my P5 i bought it knowing that it was gonna lose more value than any other car. Mazda is known for not holding value at all. I even told the salesman "I'm gonna lose $3000 right when i drive off the lot i bet" and he started laughing and said "actually i know what people say about mazda's im not gonna lie, but this is the first year they make the P5 so it shouldn't be as bad as regular mazda's. But i bought it because i love it and don't even plan on trading it in until it dies.
Two of them are in the autotrader here in Canada....
Selling for
$25 000 that is $16 200 US
$26 500 that is $ 17 200 US
Not bad considering they where bought for $23 785 Cdn.....I went for a fake trade in deal with a Nissan dealer they where ready to trade the SeR Spec V with my car 45 000 less km's on the spec V and it had a sunroof, and after market alarm and stereo already installed.... the value is only rated at how badly the person or dealer wants it....
just for the hell of it i asked the dealer one time how much they would give me for a trade in. they said they would give me 17,500 for it. not bad considering its a year old and had 21000 miles on it. and i paid 18,500 for it.
I'd take that offer in a heartbeat. Doesn't matter what car it is, if you can use it for a year and 21000miles, for $1000, hell, I'd take the money and run. Start on something new again...
just my thoughts though. (bluemp3)
Ya I dont wanna sell my mp3, I was just upset that the es holds the value almost better? With only 1500 made I was like WTF? But thanks guys I feel better now.
its blue ridge mazda in Raytown, Missouri. And I talked to a manager not just one of the sales guys. i guess i got luck i got a good dealership that doesnt feed me a bunch of bull s*** and treat me with respect when ever i am in there. i usually go there once or twice a month for the hell of it.
yyyyyeeeeaaaaaah (office space voice). You're not gonna get only 1k off a car with 20g's on it. yeahhhhhhhh. Make sure the manager didnt have little specks of white powder around his nostirls.
english you speak it. i called and asked them cause i was trying to get a loan and they wanted to get my car for coladeral. i called and aske the guys how much they would give me if i came down and traded in my car right now. thats what he said. dont beleive me. fine. dont bother me

I tinted the windows, put in an Injen CAI and got snow tires, total of all that is still under 1k, so we're looking at around 2k for a year and 18000mi...I think that is pretty worth it to jump off that boat when you can...
maybe they'd even give you 1or 2 hundred for the snow wheels that have barely 4k mi on them and sell them to the next guy for 300...wishful thinking maybe, but even still, not a bad deal...
IMO of course
I'll even do some math to back myself up...
I put around 3k down, and am paying 320 a month...
that adds up to 4280 over one year, if you can give the car back and get 2280 of that money BACK, then you've made out...minus the mods you only pay 1k for a years usage of a car...pardon my math if its off because it really could be...but that's around $83.40 a month total...including mods (about 1k worth) its still only $165 a month...once again, if thats how it shakes out, I'd take that and run...obviously its a personal decision though
