I know there has been posts on this before but I searched and searched but couldnt find a thing...

Opened my rear drivers side door to get my kid out this morning and was wondering why there was some resistance the more I opened it. I look where the front and rear doors need in the middle and the rear door molding is catching on the front door and bending it, peeling the molding off of the door!!!!!!!!!! Is this a door issue or a molding issue? If its a molding issue, I can just remove it right? I was planning on doing it anyway. I looked at the passenger side and the gap appears to be the same all the way down like the drivers side.

Someone had the same issue before. It was on this site but don't remember who. You're not alone.

Yeah, had the same thing happen to me. Scared the crap out of me! I noticed it happens if you open the rear driver side door too quick as you are closing the driver side front door at the same time. As the front door shuts, I think it flexes/bounces a bit and then the rear door molding hangs up on it. Haven't had it happen since, but it is definately the trim placement; too close to the front door. Someone else posted something about this as well. From what I recall, that poster actually bent the door a bit from the force. So be careful, or get your molding off now. I left mine on and am just careful, although a bit paranoid about it occuring again.

^What he said. I did this same thing, twice now. Just push the molding back hard and hold it for a sec. And from now on, make sure the front door is completely open or completely closed before you touch the handle of the back one, that's all. Of, like the man said, strip the molding off and go commando.

Damn, well im constantly shuffling my kids around in this thing. I know ill forget to open the front door, hell i did it this morning cause i was in a rush. Swung the door open fast to get my kid out for daycare and bent even more molding back. Freakin ridiculous, I think im gonna rip these suckers off!

You shouldn't have to open the front door to open the back door without it catching. I was just talking about have both doors in motion at the same time. If you've pushed the molding back down and it still catches, I'd either take it to the dealer to fix (ie. move it back/rearward with new tape affixed), or just remove the moldings as described in some of these threads. You could also probably move it yourself, but you will need the right kind of double-stick tape that will withstand the elements.

I would definately let the dealer fix this..Every door should work at anytime without any interference from anything....If something gets bent..I would make Mazda warranty it and repair it...There IS NO REASON this should ever happen...Especially not on a newer car.
Let them deal with the headache.
