Mazda won't flash mine becuase I replaced mine with one from another MSP, and the car has the infamous hesitation like crazy now, so I need a flashed MSP ECU.

LMK

and why won't they do it? how did they know you put in one from a different car? these ECUs are NOT VIN coded!

Do you have the non-flashed version or flashed... i heard the flashed version had problems?

edit- sry for thread jack..

Because I got it out of a wrecked protege, and I told them that, and my car says under the hood it has been flashed, and my vin shows it has been flashed on their records. The car has been too them for warranty work.

I called the other Mazda dealer in Knoxville but they're not authorized to work on Mazdaspeeds.

I belive it is non-flashed because I had a flashed one and the car ran great, I fried my flashed ECU, and replaced it with one froma junkyard, and now the car runs like crap and hesitates from 3k-4.5k rpm. It spools and the AF's are alright but it just falls on it's face. It never did that before the ECU swap so it's my last option.

I've replaced coils, spark plugs, cleaned the MAF, checked for loose couplers (I use t-bolts, they're all fine), and vac lines.

check the sale section group buys guy has 1 there

Cool, thanks. I'll check it out.

edit: I didn't see one, the only one was sold.

yeah, and it's not warranty work... why should they care?
so you're telling me that if my ECU got fried and I replaced it with a junk yard one I can't get that one flashed for money?

that's bulls***
I'd call MNAO if I were you

no reason the other dealer can't do it either since 1) it's not warranty work 2) ECU flashing is not really mazdaspeed specific... hell, I bet you if you took your car to ford, they can flash it too

Yeah they won't flash it. I am along the same lines of thinking as you; If I pay them, WTF do they care? I am out of warranty, I would even accept no warranty on the work if they'd do it.

That was another thing I was thinking about. I have owned Mazdas my whole life. First car was a 86' 323 sedan, then a 89' 323 hatch. I bought a Speed6 through the same dealer, I own a Mazdaspeed Protege, and now due to my expanding family I'm going to buy a Mazda5. They should cut me a break.

I am asking some car guys around here if they know someone at the dealer who can do it on the low low.

so ask them for a good legitimate reason why they won't do it
then tell them if they had a car that came in that needed and ECU and they put in a junk yard one, they'd have to flash it anyway

more importantly, ask them why they can't flash your s*** when your original one got fried and you got a junk yard part that isn't flashed to replace it!

talk to the manager if you haven't yet

Appareantly Mazda told them they can only flash a ECU replaced through them. I talked to the service manager, and the service foreman, but not the dealerships general manager. Maybe I should.

Well I went around the service manager, used some of my personal contacts, and got in touch with one of the techs there. He said he should be able to get me in and get the ECU flashed. So we'll see how that goes.

Here is what I have done in the past and sometimes works. Park your car in the dealers lot and walk into the garage area. Ask who the tune-up tech is and find him. Then ask him if he ever does work on the side. I bet he will flash it for you for some under the table money. I do this quite often, the dealer mechanics all do stuff on the side, especially for their friends. Why not you? You can usually save some cash to.

You beat me by 2 minutes haha.

Yep, that's the plan. He's busy now so it probably won't be today, but I believe he's gonna hook me up.

Turns out I have a lot more connections than I thought. One of my other buddies just told me he worked there for two years and knows every tech there, lol.

if you cant get it done.. lmk.. i can probably get mine flashed.. send it to you.. and you send me yours.. i have a contact that does it here!

Man, that would be great. I wasn't able to go see the tech at his convenience because of my work schedule. If you can do this let me know, I'll send you mine right away. You want a few bucks for doing it? I'd feel bad if you used your time and money and weren't compensated.

All it will cost is whatever he charges me + shipping, shouldn't be but a few bucks., I'll let u know as soon as I can talk to him
