i need something awd for next winter so i figured i would start looking now... really want a 323 gtx, or just one of the old awd proteges... lemme know..

Best way would probably be import from Europe, look for ones from the southern part of Germany, stay away from Italian cars (they are cheaper but generally not well maintained or hardly maintained at all.) But why gtx when the gt-r's are faster, have a stronger transmission and no boost cutoff in the ECU??

And what's wrong with the MSP for the winter??

i want something i can romp on in the snow. i live in colorado and i snowboard just about every week. id also like to just work on the msp during winter.

it would be cheaper to get something in the states anyways. With the fees that you would have to pay just to drive that car on the road, if it is even possibly, would out weigh the cost of just getting a DSM or old audi for sure. I am also looking for a gtx as a rallyx car, but they are more rare than hen's teeth

yea they are hard to find. i found one in san deigo i might look at. if this doesnt work i will probably pick up a higher milage 2000 audi s4. they can be had fairly cheap here like 6-8k, and a good friend of mine is a certified audi tech. i would just rather stay with a mazda.

Around here I bump into ads for gtx's all the time, too bad most of them are rusted away bad, gt-r's are usually the better choice since they are more rally car stock and is genreally a little better looked after, still often rusted badly though. Just try to spot if it is a fake or not (gtx modified to look like a gt-r.)

Wasn't the gt-r offered in the states?

yup the price on that 88' gtx is fair. thats how much they usually go for around my area. in the past 6 months or so, i've seen 323s and protege 4wd in all sorts of years sell for around that price. best way to spot genuine gtx or gtr is the drive shaft going to the rear. it would be hard to make a 2wd chasis into a 4wd without doing major body work. just finding a path for the drive shaft to reach the rear diff is already a problem. imo i would go with a 4wd protege since you say your planning on taking it to the mountains and all. plus space could be an issue with a hatch unless you go alone
