would you keep ms3 or trade in if more $$$ became available to you?

I wanted a car that was below 30k and had some balls while still being comfortable. So I bought the ms3. Not as comfortable as the GTI, but more balls and 5k less keeping me well below my limit. Well it looks like I might get deployed (again) and someone pointed our the hyundai genesis coming out. It looks like it could be a comfortable, fast car.

So heres my thoughts. If I DO end up being deployed again, I'll have much more money and will be looking at a car worth just under 40k. So I could trade in the ms3 and look at a new hyundai genesis, or maybe a slightly used lexus is 350 or something in that class (entry sport luxury) or put about 10k into my ms3. Maybe put in Bluetooth stereo or a stereo/DVD/gps type thing, and just crank up the power. Don't know if I'd ever USE the hp and handling it has to offer, but I could make it into a bit of a showcar and daily driver.

Just thinking aloud and wondering other peoples opinions. Cause I feel as though most people here were looking for a bargain sporty car but maybe might gone a different route if they had more expendable income. Not to mention it'd be in storage for a good 15 months. Meaning out in a big lot with fuel stabilizer and exposed to outdoor weather with not car washes(although part of 10k would be a custom paint job).

Personally, I would never buy a Hyundai. Anyway, I am already thinking of trading this beast in for a Lexus 250. Or trading in my wifes civic and paying the MS3 off and getting the 250. One way or another, the MS3 will no longer be my daily driver. I am kind of leaning towards getting rid of it. I'm sure some young punk would love to get his hands on my beast.

On the other hand, if you really want to put the money into the car. Trust me you won't be disappointed. EVery bolt on will prove worth it and then an EMS. Through a body kit and some rims. That thing would be sweet.

Good luck.

I don't see alot of cars that I would want to trade the ms3 for up untill you got into GT-R territiory. I would consider the evx or sti in your price range that's about it. I doubt if those cars are gonna feel radically faster than the MS3 though so I would just keep the ms3 and mod it to about 330hp, that would be best.

X2, i'd never buy a hyundai. i think their depreciation is faster than the Daewoo ever was.

I wouldn't trade mine either for any car up to that 40k range. Anything further and I am getting a 335 BMW or a Vette. Depends on if you need a four seater or whatever. I am single so I keep collecting the toys (glare)

I would use that extra money to pay off the MS3 or some other debt you may have.A bigger savings account balance is nice also.
Or if none of that sounds good get a BMW M3 or maybe a Infinity I35.

First off thank you for your service!

Secondly, I personally think Hyundai is on a roll. They have put out some REALLY nice products for the money as of late and if you plan on keeping a vehicle a while, I would not think twice about getting one, great warranty to.

I think the Genesis coupe will be close to the top of the class in its segment. Manual trans, RWD, great choice of motors. So barring something going terribly wrong, it should be a great purchase.

NOW.... with all that said, think about financial responsibility (sorry to be a party pooper) The MS3 is a great car. Its plenty classy, plenty fast and it has utility to boot. Keep the thing, heck SAVE the 10K and invest it or something. Or hook the car up to your liking and save the cash.

Maybe you're just loaded and I understand that you're in a dangerous field of work but be smart with your cash. Just my 2 cents.

Why do you think that is???

Anyway, to each his own.

EXACTLY...my thoughts, you have a great car for the money why not save money for the future

I'd keep the 3 and use the extra cash for a new set of DW drums. But that's just me.

Thank you for all your suggestions. This decision is FAR off in the future (at least 10 months) and I'm just taking suggestions/thoughts. I'm basing on the 'ol scale of "needs" "wants".

Needs - 4 doors. decent power. reliable/quality
wants - comfort features like bluetooth stereo hands-free, excellent stereo, gps, satellite radio

Now I'm figuring I can buy a car with all this in there and some other features (backup camera in genesis, dvd player, all integrated to look stock, cause it is) or upgrade my current car to have close to all of this (i'm sure there's a super stereo receiver that has dvd playback, gps, satellite radio, etc and I can put whatever speakers, amp, sub, etc. that I want)

I'm sorta leaning towards 'pimping' my current ride. It really would suck that if I get deployed again (surprise surprise) I'd lose that much time on my warranty and my car will end up being very new with only basic powertrain left. However if I keep it and mod it, i'm messing with warranty issues anyway.

And for those who are talking about financially stable, I've been being a good boy so far, and although still fairly young (25) I've got excellent credit, savings, retirement funds, and the only debt I will have at the end of the year will be my wife and mine's car payments. So 10k (or rather 10g's in money world?) would be just for that. And by that time there should be much more support and we'd know what works what doesn't by the time I would get back (2010).

PS - Zoomzone, I feel you. My job in the army is as an army musician. So I came back and bought my wonderful instruments (clarinets). Next time I get back I'll be getting a tenor sax.

I'm thinking of trading in the Speed3 for a GT-R when they are available. Time will tell on the markup on this car if not too bad, the Speed3 goes bye-bye

only thing I would trade for is a gtr.... and thats not going to happen, so I'd use the extra $$ on the ms3

Yeah, I know aftermarket won't be big on that. Best I could hope for would be exhaust, intake, and maybe some sort of turbo/supercharger. But it needs to be a 4-door. So that keeps me from a bunch of what would be very good choices. Gotta keep the wife happy with 4 doors for when we have kids and need to USE the backseat. And if the wife isn't happy, my life sure ain't happy.

if i had decided that my budget was around 40k OTD right around now, i would go get myself a G37. they're as fast as i need a car to be, and they're damn comfortable to boot...:D
