Would you do it again?

nope. would have gone with srt-4.

would have spent 2K on suspension
and the rest on engine.

i have spent near 11K on my msp and i cant even immagine would that would be like in a srt-4.

plus the srt-4 block is good for a lot and i mean ALOT of hp. Forged already.

the only thing that i like better about the msp is the interior and exterior look.

i love the fact that mopar is helping out the tuners with the stage kits.

ill drop dead if mazda ever does that.

wow-zer!

If your planning on keeping it stock I can't think of any other car for the range that you can purchase the Speed at. Now if your stuck at MSRP I'd probably go for the SRT instead but since you can grab a Mazdaspeed for mid 16's there is nothing you can buy new that can touch it for looks, straightline performance, handling, and stereo. If you are looking for a car that is easy to make stupidly fast then grab an SRT the drivetrain is made to handle crazy amounts of power. The downside is you won't touch one for less than MSRP so it comes in at 5k or so over the Speed.

For those that complain about our computers you should check out the Mini Cooper S forums. They have some serious issues with the electronic throttle they use and stalling or what they call the Yo-Yo. I believe they are on their 3rd of 4th flash with no difference and in some cases worse results. They also have absolutely no low end torque a good 60' time for them is 2.4-2.5 seconds.

Wow, thanks for all of the great replies!!
I called the local dealer that oddly still has 4 MSPs on their lot to see what the story was on them.
I was told that, apparently, there was a string of headunit thefts from these cars on dealer lots...all over the country. There was a thread about these specific cars and this dealer in this site's forum for my area a while back. The dealer is still waiting for replacement heads due to a huge backorder on them.
So, knowing that, should I still bother for $16k usd, or dicker for less knowing that they're already been vandalized to some extent?
My apologies if this particular tangent should be a separate thread. Mods feel free to move/delete if that's the case.
Again, thanks soooo much for the great words, everyone! I had no idea so much info would show up in just a day.

Haggle the price down and tell them you will take the car, with them getting you a new H/U(of your choice) at a local shop. They probably use a small stereo shop for their tinting/stereo contracts and can get a deal so it should not be out of the question.

At the price, yes. I'm thinking about buying a a house, so I'm trying to keep monthly expenses down. If I was going to stay in my apartment and wasn't pinching pennies, I'd have gone with the SRT-4 or a WRX. I don't regret not getting either of those cars, though.

I was coming off a GTI VR6. Liked the power, didn't like the handling and I didn't want to sink several thousand into suspension.

Yes - love this car

Admit it would have been a harder descision at MSRP though (paid 18 for mine).

me too...i luv my car but not for msrp or anything around 19k.....i was lookin at used wrx's for 16k-17k....got my msp new for 17k so it was only logical to get the new car for the same price :)

I've had mine for over a year, have around 25,000 miles on it. Glad I got it! Great gas mileage, great interior (for the price), great performance, been very reliable. All problems fixed under warranty... I'm satisfied with everything but the re-sale value right now! (Yes, I paid MSRP... ) :-( I will say I prefer a "sports car feel" -- lower ride, design less centered on the cabin -- but if you are looking for a 4 door car, this is an excellent choice!

Yes. At least mine in Spicy Orange. Didn't want any other color, regardless of price. I love the styling inside and out, and the handling is incredible. I don't love the factory ECU, but there will eventually be a fix for it.

The SRT-4 is brutally fast out of the box and has the potential for much more HP, but they're so ugly! I came close to buying one but couldn't get past the exterior styling. It looks like it's jacked up in the rear.

YES!!! i'd do it, no doubt about it.
great car for the money....gives me joy every time i see that needle on the boost gauge go past 0......
