I would buy one in a heart beat! All it would need to be amazing is some slightly sportier wheels, stiffer suspension and 60ish more horses. It would put the 500 Abarth and Mini Cooper S to shame.

All I would care primarily about is have a 4 wheel independent suspension with sway bars and such, no torsion beam in the rear, and four-wheel disc brakes.

If Mazda is going to make it a Turbo, they Better make it reliable.

The MSM, MSP, MS6, and MS3 are so unreliable. All of them are known for blowing their engines and losing compression because Mazda does not do enough to strengthen their engines for boost.

Actually, aside from the LSD in the MSP every one of those cars is perfectly reliable if you leave them alone; the MS3 probably being the most reliable. Mazda has absolutely no obligation to build vehicles to withstand aftermarket modifications.

Stock too. There is a thread on the MS3 forums where people list their blown engine info like what cylinder, what mileage, what mods, and at what speed it happened.

Lots of blown engines were from very mildly modified MS3's with only exhaust and intake and some even from stock. Seems to commonly happen at 4000-5000rpm, cylinder #1 or 2, and at random mileage according to MS3 owners. I wanted to buy all of the Mazdaspeeds at some point so I researched them. I also test drove a few MSP's. All of them stock with under 100,000 miles and turbo's were not working.

All i know is, my 96 Protege is driven very hard and red-lined every day now at 161,000 miles. Had it for 7 years. Used it as a pizza delivery car driving 100+ miles per day in city driving. Was involved in a car police chase when the car was stolen. Was born as a rental car. Was involved in a large hit and run accident that damaged the frame/exhaust/trunk-fixed it. Was used offroad. And it never gave me any problems. I doubt I can do that with a stock mazdaspeed without getting major problems.

I hope they can get the 167hp MX-5 engine into a future Mazdaspeed 2. That would be perfect and very reliable.

Do we even know how successful the Mazda2 has really been in the US yet? Anyone have some facts? I know they are very successful in the rest of the world but we know how the US is with small hatchbacks. I see them all over the place here in Miami but that's not really a barometer of success.

Question is, if it hasn't been successful in the US will we even get a new Mazda2? Nevertheless a Mazdaspeed2. Also keep in mind Mazda's financial issues.

I've seen a fair share of them around the DC area as well.

I rarely see them in PA, NJ. I have seen 1 when I lived in Maryland for 10 months. Mazda is doing better though. They are no longer controlled by Ford, who owns just 3% of them now. Mazda bought their controlling shares back from Ford not too long ago.

They should make it as a contender for the Audi S1, Fiat 500 Abarth, Mini cooper S and cars like those. would buy one for sure!

Still no MAZDASPEED2?!?!

Can't give up...Added another 2 YEARS to the Poll...VOTE AWAY and remind Mazda this would be a GOOD IDEA!!! (rockon)

If I could vote again, I would! This definitely needs to happen.

How are the Mazda 2 sales though? Because if they suck there won't be a new Mazda 2 much less a MAZDASPEED2. I wanna see it happen 100% though. Preferably a 2 doors. That would set it apart even more from the Mazda 2.

I see at least two green, and another red 2 on a daily basis. On Tuesday I literally passed two other red 2's (one Sport and one Touring) within five minutes. I'd say they're selling pretty well in Southwest Ohio. I still don't think it's financially in Mazda's best interest to made a Mazdaspeed2, but I would be thoroughly angry if they did. Depending on the standard equipment and options I'd seriously consider trading my current 2.

Oh yeah, no doubt they're out there. I see them in Miami at least once or twice a day. Mostly Sport though. With the current lack of US support for small premium hatchbacks i just don't see it happening. Even if it did happen i doubt they'd sell it to the US.
